Amerisure is currently recruiting for a Senior Workers’ Compensation Major Case Unit Claims Technical Specialist. This will be remote position. Preference will go to candidates that have a strong jurisdictional background for Florida and litigation management. The ideal candidate will also possess the following skill set. 

Summary Statement

Manages a portfolio of complex, high severity and specialized workers compensation claims to ensure delivery of superior claims outcomes.  Concludes claims based on the analysis of coverage and the developed facts of loss.  Develops, negotiates and coordinates the execution of strategies to efficiently and effectively manage loss costs.  Promotes the success of the organization through development of relationships with agencies and policy holders.

Essential Tasks/Major Duties


  • Directly handle the assigned portfolio of high severity, specialized, complex and unique workers compensation claims in multiple jurisdictions.

  • Investigate, evaluate, make coverage and compensability determinations and formulate appropriate disposition strategies to mitigate and resolve losses in the best interest of the policy holder, agency and organization.

  • Collaborate proactively with agents, policyholders and internal stakeholders on claims of highest complexity/severity and provide strategic input and superior customer service.

  • Collaborate with counsel on litigated claims to develop cost efficient approaches to the litigation process and develop action plans to manage cases to early conclusion.

  • Establish and maintain proper reserves for each claim to accurately reflect the financial exposure.

  • Manage all claims correspondence to ensure proper file documentation.    

  • Determine need for, identify and engage external vendor partners as needed to execute proper resolutions while monitoring and controlling costs.

  • Understand and investigate Subrogation opportunities to mitigate loss exposure.

  • Work with internal and external business partners to identify trends and develop solutions to prevent future high severity losses.       

  • Mentor and train other claims adjusters.

  • Provide claim details and status to internal business partners including actuarial, reinsurance and underwriting, as well as external customers including insureds, agents and reinsurers as required.  Present large losses during internal file conferences and roundtables. 

  • Attend mediations, settlement conferences and trials. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.

  • 10 years commercial workers compensation claims experience, or related insurance coverage matters, including 5 years of high complexity/high severity claims.

  • Maintain a high level of technical expertise to include medical terminology, state regulations, and multijurisdictional legal developments and trends.

  • Maintain insurance licensing and engagement with insurance related associations.

  • Experience handling litigated files and directing outside defense counsel.

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated successful ability to build positive relationships and partnerships within department, across the organization and with external customers.

  • Ability to think strategically with supporting analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with ambiguity.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with internal and external customers.

  • Proven negotiations skills.

  • Capable of organizing, multi-tasking and prioritizing work.

  • Ability to make prompt, intelligent decisions based upon detailed analysis of complex issues.

  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
