The Pediatric Clinical Psychologist (part-time) provides direct care to young patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and their families, consultation to medical staff regarding psychosocial issues that interfere with patients' and family members' ability to manage diabetes, and support to the clinic's educational/behavioral/medical programs. The Pediatric Clinical Psychologist works collaboratively with the pediatric clinical research program.
Responsibilities
Evaluates and treats pediatric, adolescent and young adult patients along with their families for psychiatric, behavioral and other mental health conditions.
evaluates and diagnoses psychiatric and behavioral problems
chooses appropriate therapy
recognizes potential effects of interventions
actively refers patients to appropriate clinicians
understands the psychological implications and medical complications of diabetes relevant to treatment
Provides behavioral support for clinic programs.
teaches the behavioral components and leads support groups that are part of the clinic's educational, medical and weight management programs
provides consultation to the clinic teams conducting these programs
develops innovative interventions for patients and their families
designs and completes outcomes evaluation of programs
provides emergency mental health support
Works in collegial fashion with other healthcare professionals.
shares appropriate care with other healthcare professionals
consults with other healthcare providers for relevant treatment decisions
provides consultation to other clinical staff
communicates with other health care professionals in the community as needed
Maintains clinic and professional standards of care.
assists with quality assurance and utilization management
maintains clinic and regulatory standards of care and codes of ethics
initiates strategies for practice improvement
promotes the value of Joslin Clinic models of care
Participates in professional development.
provides supervision for post-doctoral candidates, research assistants and other staff as needed
attends and participates in clinical and educational conferences
satisfies departmental and Harvard Medical School teaching obligations
Clinical research.

Qualifications
Ph.D. or Psy.D. Psychology
Clinical pediatric experience in healthcare settings, career interest in behavioral aspects of diabetes
Licensed psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in the State of Massachusetts or qualifications to be licensed in Massachusetts
Strong clinical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Familiarity with medical conditions, especially diabetes
