This position plays a critical role in food safety by testing incoming ingredients, WIP and finished goods for B&G Foods. Testing includes chemical, physical and microbiological analyses.

Responsibilities:

Performs chemical, physical and microbiological analyses on ingredients, WIP, finished goods as directed in an accurate and timely manner.
Performs microbiological analyses on environmental & equipment swabs. Communicates results in a timely manner. Provides weekend support for Microbiology lab testing as required.
Provides technical analyses and support to other departments and manufacturing locations as necessary including Gluten and other allergen testing.
Calculates and evaluates test results for accuracy, initiates retests (as needed) and records test results on a daily basis.
Prepares samples for analysis at third-party laboratories as required.
Operates, calibrates and maintains equipment used for analyses. Documents all quality control activities, calibrations and maintenance performed.
Monitors and maintains laboratory chemical inventories, hazardous waste and supplies. Updates chemical register on an annual basis.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Reviews current methods and evaluates new methods, especially those which can improve efficiency and reliability. Develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions for laboratory processes.
Maintains accuracy and precision standards by successfully participating in proficiency testing programs.
Maintains inter- and intra-departmental work flow by fostering a spirit of teamwork.
Creates, updates, closes quality non-conformances as appropriate.
Performs verification procedures related to the role.
Lab Technologist shall cover for other Lab Technologist and/or Ingredient Quality Technologist during absences.
Food Safety and Quality problems should be reported to Quality Supervisor (Laboratory) or Food Safety and Laboratory Manager.
Experience, Skills, Education:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science or related field preferred.
2 year sin chemical and food analysis.
Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Experience with JD Edwards, PKMS/Atomic a plus, Smartsheet
Good analytical and mathematical skills.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Flexibility.
Team player.
Provides weekend support in the microbiology lab as needed.
Specialized Trianing/Certification:

DOT Hazard Waste Training - required
Obtain acceptable results in proficiency programs for physical, chemical and microbiological analysis - required
Obtain HACCP training and internal audit training - required
SQF Practitioner or obtain within 6-9 months - required
