Position Description:
Amptek – Electrical Design Engineer
Amptek is a world leader in the design, development, manufacture, and sale of radiation detection components used in X-ray and gamma-ray detection. These are used primarily in X-ray spectroscopy, for analytical chemistry in laboratory and portable applications, and in nuclear and space research. Amptek’s Electrical Design Engineer will have a direct, hands-on impact on products shipped globally to solve important problems in materials analysis.
We are seeking a talented Electrical Design Engineer to design, develop and test signal processing electronics used in Amptek’s radiation spectroscopy products. This includes design of mixed signal circuits and PCB layout, design of FPGAs and the digital signal processing algorithms, and design of the microcontrollers and embedded software use for communications, including USB and Ethernet. This position will involve both new product development and the customization and support of existing products. The Electrical Engineer will work closely with Amptek’s other staff, including other members of the engineering team, and production and customer support staff.
This position requires a background and experience in electrical engineering, analytical and quantitative skills, the ability to work both independently and on a team, and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Responsibilities
o Design, develop, and test analog and digital circuits, including FPGAs and microcontrollers, used in Amptek’s signal processing electronics.
o Design, develop, and test firmware in Amptek’s embedded systems.
o Develop software as need to support hardware designs and tests.
o Produce PCB layouts, specify components and interact with CMs to insure fulfillment.
o Validate designs at the system level, including hardware and software integration.
o Manage and support products from proof-of-concept through mass production.
o Work closely with mechanical and software designers, with the production team, and with key customers.

Position Requirements:
o Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field (recent grads preferred).
o Experience with mixed signal circuits, FPGA design, embedded systems, and embedded software. Knowledge and prior usage of digital design with VHDL and/or Verilog languages.
o Strong problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to diagnose, analyze, and troubleshoot a range of technical problems.
o Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
o Ability to work independently and as a team member.
