JOB OVERVIEW

The Digital Editor for the new Explore WGBH web site will develop and execute an editorial strategy for showcasing the Foundation and its mission in compelling, interesting and engaging ways. The editor will be responsible for communicating and coordinating with departments across WGBH to develop and maintain an ongoing editorial calendar, along with directing the strategy of content production and development for the web site. This includes creating and editing copy, juggling multiple editorial assignments, maintaining the web site and its various sections, and helping lead the efforts in the Foundation’s Linked In strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Strategize and plan social media activities for WGBH News.


• Draft and train the staff on social media best practices.


• Writing and editing content for the WGBH Explore web site


• Developing a digital publishing strategy across multiple departments


• Creating an “institutional” voice on social platforms (primarily LinkedIn, but also Twitter, Instagram and Facebook) where we communicate the successes as a Foundation, with benefits to attracting and retaining talented candidates to WGBH


• Introduce the overall WGBH brand to digital audiences through initiatives with the local content and Foundation development teams like Events, Membership and Marketing

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• 5+ years of relevant work experience in digital publishing.


• News journalism experience preferred.


• 3+ years of supervisory/management experience.


• Experience in a variety of Content Management Systems


• Ability to create a culture of accountability, high standards, transparency and collaboration


• Experience in writing for the web, including strong headline writing and knowledge of SEO best practices


• Leadership qualities of presence, confidence, judgment and integrity


• Demonstrated understanding of broadcasting (radio and TV, commercial and public), digital media, and emerging communication technologies


• Entrepreneurial spirit


• Strong people manager with experience supporting talent


• Ability to motivate and manage staff; proven ability to nurture diversity


• Proven strategic thinking, budget development, prioritization and management skills


• A strong team orientation with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels with clients, production partners, agencies, staff, senior management, peers and industry colleagues

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Master’s degree or other advanced degree a plus.


• Experience in video editing and photography a plus.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s Degree in journalism or related field required.
