DESCRIPTION

The Interdepartmental Program in the Study of Religion at the University of California, Los Angeles is seeking a part-time Lecturer to teach one course on Religion, Film, and Media during the Winter 2021 academic quarter. This course concentrates on the complex relationship between religious traditions and various media as they have intersected in specific historical and cultural contexts.

The ideal candidate should have knowledge of historical, sociological, and anthropological approaches used in concert with various methodologies current within media studies. Expertise in Buddhist and gender studies desirable. The candidate should also be familiar with the role of media in forming and expressing religious ideas, practices, and identities. Applicants must have a PhD in Religions Studies or related fields, and should have a demonstrable excellence in teaching.
