Job Description:

Summary: Under the direction of the Food Safety & Quality Supervisor, the Food Safety & Quality Technician I is primarily responsible for participating in the execution of quality, food safety, food defense and biosecurity programs including audits of egg processing, animal welfare, biosecurity and feed safety/quality as directed.

Key Responsibilities:
-Verifying quality parameters to ensure compliance with company standards, customer requirements, cGMPs and applicable USDA and FDA requirements
-Laboratory duties include; physical and microbiological testing, chemical titration and environmental monitoring
-Upkeep of SDS, document control and other food safety/quality related programs
-Creation of PEB, BOL and related load paperwork as well as performance of daily process records audits
-Training and enforcement of food/feed/animal welfare and personnel safety standards
-Communication and notification of out-of-compliance situation to FS&Q Supervisor and Processing/Production Management
-Data entry, analysis, reporting and upkeep of graphs of information gathered and analysis of information to identify trends
-Inventory and ordering of supplies for FS&Q as applicable
-Assist with or affect Mock Recall/Foreign Material Investigations
-Participate in security and bio-security audits
-Involvement with animal health and welfare compliance and Milling/Feed Safety requirements as applicable
-Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
-Education, Certifications and Experience
-College degree in related field is preferred but not required
-SQF (or other GFSI-recognized standard), HACCP, Internal Auditing, and ASQ a plus
-2-5 years of experience in addition to, or in lieu of, college degree
-Animal agriculture, food production, food processing, medical or pharmaceutical fields

-Must be a hands-on self-starter
-Strong communication skills both written and verbal

-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
-Thorough knowledge, or ability to attain thorough knowledge, of Food Safety Systems
-Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
-Ability to motivate employees to work within company parameters
-Ability to work at any company area sites routinely
-Willing and able to work a flexible schedule including being on call after normal work hours, weekends, some work from home or extended hours on location as deemed necessary by management
-Professionalism in appearance and work habits, self-organization, sanitation, management, teamwork and techniques for efficient and cost-effective food production are stressed.
-Prefer experience with Microsoft Access, PowerPoint and Outlook
-Prefer informal leadership skills and fluent in Spanish
-Ability to interact with individuals from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds

Physical Requirements:
-Practice proper personnel hygiene and comply with cGMPs such as wearing hairnets, gloves, and safety equipment.
-Good motor skills
-Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
-Ability to enter confined space
-Must be able to work with personal protective equipment
-Ability to read, write and speak English.
-Ability to sit or stand for long periods, frequent walking, climb stairs or ladders and squat
-Ability to use computer, typewriter, telephone, and analytical equipment
-Ability to drive and/or ride in automobile or aircraft
-Vision and hearing adequate to perform job requirements
-Occasional travel, some overnight

Working Conditions:
-Food processing facility can be wet, warm in the summer, cool in the winter and loud
-Ear plugs and boots where needed
-The farms and mill may be dusty, hot, cold and dirty
-Some exposure to animal agriculture environment
-Showering before entering certain areas is required
-Uniforms are required and provided by Daybreak Foods, Inc.
