Job Summary:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to systems management tasks, such as patch maintenance, performance tuning, business continuance scenarios, contingency and recovery plan development and testing.   In addition, the Systems Engineer will play an important role in identifying issues, risks and offer short and long term solutions to ensure operational and recovery strategies and processes are current and sustainable. This position will work closely with other IT departments to guarantee reliable systems that meet the needs of the company through large projects to key initiatives affecting both distribution and manufacturing operations globally.

 

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

• This role will have a specific focus on developing efficiencies across the CooperVision environment to help in mitigating services into the cloud.


• Documents recovery and continuity plan procedures and system admin activity that include, Server, Storage, Citrix, Network and sometimes Linux to ensure plans are current and compliant.


• Works with manager establishing and planning continuity and recovery test scenarios facilitating simulations with all cross functional teams.


• Aides in the maintenance and administration of the Business Continuity / Risk too.


• Provide technical support to business systems and various functional areas, using root-cause elimination troubleshooting strategy.


• Assist with impact assessments to gather all information required to determine supportability identifying any suggested adjustments to continuity and recovery strategies.


• Maintains system protocols by writing and updating procedures. Provides references for users by writing and maintaining user documentation; providing help desk support; training users.


• Proactively monitors systems to ensure optimal performance, systems health, and availability.


• Performs ongoing Operating System management tasks, including upgrades, patch maintenance, performance tuning as required.


• Develop and optimize pre and post patching processes. Ability to create deployment patch packages using SCCM, Batch Patch etc.


• Provides trending, utilization, and availability reports on a regular basis.


• Works closely with various IT groups to schedules and coordinates preventative and corrective maintenance, perform installations of hardware, software, and operating systems changes and configurations.


• Follows Coopervision’s change management practices.


• Ensures systems configuration follows best practices and adheres to CooperVision’s security and SOX policies/guidelines.


• Works with the Manager in establishing policies on system use and services


• Performs problem troubleshooting, diagnosis, and performance issues, and any other O/S related issues.


• Focus on existing tasks/processes with a specific emphasis on developing efficiencies across the CooperVision environment to help in migrating services into the cloud.


• Leverages scripting skills and available tools to automate processes to reduce human intervention increasing productivities.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Experience with logical volume management and clustering solutions.


• Technical knowledge or background of network protocols and system administration.


• Cloud experience with Office365, Azure, AWS


• Experience with orchestration and automation.


• Must be able to communicate effectively with different business units – some technical, some not.


• Experience with SAN technologies, specifically EMC (VNXe, XtremIO, VSAN)


• Developing performance monitoring and capacity planning techniques


• Excellent problem solving and analytical expertise, situational decision making.


• The ability to prioritize demands for mission critical systems.


• Excellent time management, written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.


• Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail.


• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Experience:

• At least 5 years related experience in a Systems Engineer role.

Education:

• University Degree in relevant field or equivalent experience in field is required.
