Technical Writer

At Tanium, a Technical Writer in our Support Center fulfills a necessary role in our organization to serve our customers by documenting technical solutions and best practices. With a primary focus on customer satisfaction, Technical Writers focus on improving the overall experience of our customers when using Tanium. This role will report to the Support Director.

What you’ll do:

• Produce high-quality documentation that meets company standards and is appropriate for its intended audience
• Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements
• Translate internal best practices, complex problems, community discussions, and support cases into externally consumable documentation, such as knowledge base articles
• Coordinate with other organizations, such as Enterprise Services and Engineering, to ensure published articles are accurate and reflect the current state of the product
• Manage updates and revisions to existing technical documentation
• Analyze existing content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities.
• Participate in the development of documentation style standards, information architecture, tools, and best practices

Education

• BA/BS or equivalent experience required from the following:


• Journalism, English, Communications, Computer science, or Engineering

• 5+ years experience in software documentation
• Writing for a system administrator audience
• Experience documenting for both Windows and Linux environments
• Familiarity with XML, HTML, topic based/structured authoring, and single-sourcing; knowledge of DITA
• Self-starter with ability to learn software applications with little direction
• Experience with IT security software/products a plus
• Effective communication skills
• Security +, CCSP, GCIA, CEH, OSCP or other related security certifications are a plus, but not required.
