The Ophthalmologist will provide expert diabetic eye care for Beetham Eye Institute, Joslin Diabetes Center patients. In addition, this physician will participate in the operations of the Eye Research Clinical Trials program with a goal of maintaining and improving both recruitment and quality participation in clinical research.
Responsibilities
Clinic
Treats patients with Diabetic Eye Disease
Examines patients' eyes to ensure eye health, to treat injuries and to identify eye irregularities
Prescribes glasses, contacts or surgery to correct vision
Provides emergency and triages ophthalmic care
Interacts with medical staff
Participates in referral development
Works in a collegial fashion with other diabetes health professionals
Research
Participates in the operations of the BEI clinical research program
Participates in clinical research & clinical trials
Interacts with research staff, fellows
Qualifications
Degree in medicine from an accredited school
Residency & fellowship in Ophthalmology
At least 4 years of ophthalmology experience
Certified license to practice in Massachusetts
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to interact with peers and staff, fiscal and operational aspects of administrative responsibilities such as ensuring accountability in clinical and scholarly activities, staff development and budget management.
Effective communication skills are needed to share information and influence other investigators and internal/external colleagues as well as to mentor and develop medical staff, fellows and students.
Articulate both verbally and in writing with regard to evidence-based clinical diabetes eye care.
