Responsible for managing one or more technical organizations which may include technical applications and systems, operations, infrastructure and related activities, as well as technical programs and projects from initiation through delivery. Works to continuously lead and improve development teams and right-size the delivery workforce. Provides accountability, guidance and direction to team managers, project managers, and other technical leadership to ensure that the Software Delivery organization consistently delivers projects on time and within budget. Works with the appropriate program management teams, architecture teams, and leadership to continuously improve the product development processes and ensure the team is aligned with customer expectations and that solutions are capable of providing value to the business in the most efficient and impactful way possible.
Responsibilities:
Provides technical leadership and sets strategy to support business processes
Works with other staff and members of leadership to design and develop business strategies necessary for the forward progress of technology and related organizational operations
Provides guidance, advice, mentoring, coaching and career development to the team manager(s) and assists them in motivating their teams around business objectives
Develops and nurtures the technical skillset of developers and promote a shared learning environment
Delivers business value by ensuring the agile development teams are constantly aligned with the organization’s goals and operating principles
Builds and maintains strong collaborative relationships with customers, users and other stakeholders to ensure the agile development teams, are aligned with all aspects of the delivery of business value
Creates and maintains relationships with vendors and the broader industry to ensure the Software Delivery organization remains on the forefront of innovation and technological advancement
Requirements:
5+ years experience managing multiple applications development projects, including staff management, budgeting, and planning
2+ years experience managing Agile software development teams
Deep technical expertise required in order to bring adoption of software development and operations best practices, participate in design sessions, and create operational strategies and policies that align with organizational goals
Understanding of business management (i.e., operations, financial controls, human resources policies and practices, strategic planning)
Ability to build teams and distribute work in an effective way across the organization
Demonstrated success in managing a diverse staff of management and non-management employees and resolving difficult interpersonal/professional conflicts where legal/organizational vulnerability is significant
Demonstrated ability to provide constructive feedback, resolve conflicts, and manage change
Experience managing DevOps teams strongly preferred
Experience with one or more cloud service providers preferred
History of hands-on development experience preferred
Note: This position targets 6 or more technical employee direct reports and a total org size of 50-100+.
Education: BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent education/experience.
