Job Description:

Objective: responsible for all aspects of the Engineering activities related to developing new products for customers as well as maintaining existing products. This includes interactions with customers, external vendors, and internal resources such as Sales, Purchasing, and Tooling; from quoting through part approvals for new, revised or transferred injection molding and assembly projects. In this position activities include recommendations for: tooling vendors, raw materials selection, main processing equipment, and accessory and automation equipment. Will also coordinate the development of proper documentation for quality requirements such as first article inspections, PFMEAs, capability studies, and PPAP submission, and development of molding and assembly parameters with the proper internal resources. Expectations for this position also include cost reductions and continuous improvement projects.


  • Conducting flow and thermal simulation / analysis of new and existing tooling to ensure products meet customer quality and performance requirements.
  • Develop and sustain a modeling and simulation toolkit which will enable our engineers to quickly translate product concepts into stable, repeatable and capable manufacturing processes.
  • Process and product evaluations

  • Participate in casting trials, and perform various testing related to product robustness and assessment.
  • Set up simulation models in accordance with best practices. Concept, design or hypothesis and test in real-world conditions through graphical and mathematical models, 3-D Printed Models and Statistical Analysis.
  • Conduct and interpret flow simulation studies using established guidelines and practices.
  • Document and report result in accordance with specific program requirements.
  • Complete flow simulation activities on time and within quoted metrics.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to colleagues.
  • Advance and improve the use of flow simulation techniques and practices
  • Assist in development and advancement of core competencies and technological know-how.
  • Work collaboratively with plants and design groups across the Howmet organization
  • Attend casting trials/samples to 'close the loop' of simulation vs reality
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Support technical reviews and meetings with customers.
  • Participate as a team member in broad engineering assignments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Develop complex predictive simulation models
  • Coach all engineers to apply developed models over a broad range of technical issues
  • Continuously improve new product development standards/standard work
  • Collaborate with laboratories to conduct materials testing to better understand non-linear or incompletely documented materials characteristics
  • Design and supervise physical tests in order to understand model applicability and limitations
  • Perform engineering studies as part of the development process, analyze the results and write formal technical reports of highly complex information that will be shared with internal and external contacts
  • Coach Design Engineers on using simulation model method templates

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Materials Science along with 7 years related industry experience.
  • Experience in injection molding tool design, processing and project management required
  • Knowledge of molding processes and related support processes and secondary operations of plastics is preferred (molding, joining, and assembly methods)
  • Ability to read blueprints and knowledge or experience with 3D CAD software is desired
  • Proven interpersonal, written and verbal communication, priority and time management, and records and information management skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of die casting concepts and techniques as well as project management experience is an asset.
