Description
VSolvit is seeking a Technical Writer who plays an important role in the software development cycle, gathering requirements and assisting the activities of the rest of the technical development team. This role requires excellent attention to detail as the Technical Writer frequently needs to examine functional specifications and translate them into system guidelines that shape project development as well as find ways to align ongoing projects with existing enterprise-level systems.
In addition to assisting the technical development teams, a Technical Writer is frequently responsible for conducting research on existing systems and devising solutions that work within those systems. They will also meet directly with clients to demonstrate solutions, answer questions regarding software capabilities and requirements, and work to resolve issues that arise during the development cycle.
Responsibilities
- Document system and design specifications, user help features, and other related information
- Analyze and define objectives, scope, issues and organizational impact of systems, operations or activities while developing recommendations for improvements
- Recommend solutions to increase productivity, lower costs, streamline daily business activities and provide a secure and stable IT portal environment
- Communicate with staff or clients to understand project requirements, understand and address concerns of business line stakeholders, advising them on project costs, design concepts and changes
- Collaborate with developers and engineers to select design solutions and ensure compatibility of applicable components
- Research and evaluate current or emerging technologies and critical approaches to architecture, then consider their costs, compatibility, portability, scalability or usability, as appropriate
- Verify and test the interoperability and security of solutions, monitoring the solution to detect potential problems
Position Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of technical writing experience
- 5+ years' experience utilizing MS Office Suite
- Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, or 3+ years technical writing experience
- DoD Secret Security Clearance
- United States Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Federal or State Government customers
- Department of Defense correspondence and document writing styles
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field preferred
- Able to study complicated things and explain them clearly
- Able to show ideas graphically
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences
- Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking
