The Critical Care Education Specialist is responsible for clinical orientation, competency assessment and ongoing education of critical care nursing staff. The critical care education specialist is considered a subject matter expert in critical care nursing, and utilizes evidence based guidelines in provision of care, protocol development and staff education. Nurse Education Specialist reports directly to the Director of Professional Development and Practice and is responsible for facilitating the professional development and lifelong learning activities of nurses to enhance their professional competence and role performance

The Education Specialist is responsible for managing overall professional development programs, providing relevant education to nurses, maintaining and enhancing clinical competence, fostering a positive outlook on lifelong learning, directing the development of educational activities and planning programs that increase breadth and depth of nurses’ knowledge. The Education Specialist demonstrates professionalism at all times and is an integral part of the nursing leadership team, representing their department at all levels of the organization.
