Associate General Counsel at Kiddie Academy in Abingdon, Maryland

Job Description:

Kiddie Academy is seeking a full-time Associate General Counsel to work at its corporate office in Abingdon, MD.  Under the direction of the General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel will provide legal counsel to Essential Brands, Inc. and its subsidiaries on a wide range of legal matters as assigned and supervised by the General Counsel including, franchising; contracts; marketing and advertising; employment; advising leadership on legal strategies and issues; and reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various documents related to one or more corporate legal functions (such as litigation, intellectual property, or employment law). This role requires an individual with the personal confidence, legal acumen and business savvy to operate in a regulated industry with rapidly shifting priorities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provides support to the General Counsel on selected legal matters


• Drafts and manages various contracts and documents including vendor supply agreements, marketing agreements, employment related agreements, and franchise related documents


• Reviews, revises and edits materials presented to franchisees and the public


• Tracks legal department matters and agreements


• Coordinates various matters with outside counsel


• Interprets internal and external business and technical issues and recommends solutions in line with best practices


• Works collaboratively with other departments on key strategic initiatives


• Proactively identifies and communicates potential issues and legal risks

• 2 – 5 years of relevant experience as an attorney in a law firm or in-house environment




• Experience in the franchise field highly preferred




• General business/litigation/regulatory background




• Ability to write well and be persuasive orally and in writing 




• Ability to deal effectively with and solve day-to-day and long-term legal and business problems




• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to achieve business objectives while minimizing legal risks




• Ability to multi task, understand and meet deadlines, work independently, and interact with all levels of staff and management
