Position Overview

The Benefits Consultant will responsible for supporting the research, analysis, design, implementation, evaluation, communication and execution of Benefits programs and related processes in Canada and US. They will be responsible for the delivery of our benefits programs through advising the human resources and management teams, building internal and external client relationships, and leading the local administration of our programs and processes.

Essential Job Functions


  • Serves as the internal expert on employee benefits and provides input and recommendations on employee benefit plan design.

  • Act as a technical resource and subject matter expert to the human resources team. Advise and coach HR business partners, HR Service Center and managers on specific benefits policies interpretation, procedures and processes

  • Develop metrics to measure progress and success of benefit programs and communication initiatives. Analyze data and make recommendations to increase effectiveness.

  • Perform annual non-discrimination testing, complete annual census reports, complete compliance questionnaires, and file 5500s.

  • Support the Benefits Program Manager during annual audits of the benefit plans by gathering, submitting and complying with all auditor requests.

  • Lead US and Canada annual enrollment including establishing requirements and user acceptance testing with Workday setup, review written communications, and lead employee benefit meetings.

  • Support US and Canada renewals by compiling and providing required data to broker and / or carriers. Support implementation of approved changes to plans with vendors and carriers for US and Canada.

  • Survey industry trends. Complete benefits surveys and review information obtained from the results. Develop specific recommendations for review by management.

  • Evaluate and make recommendations to revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.

  • Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve a wide range of complex benefit issues in a timely, equitable and efficient manner.

  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for US and Canada benefits processes.

Basic Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a related field

  • 5+ years’ benefits administration experience

Preferred Qualifications


  • Proven ability to effectively manage projects while balancing competing priorities

  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

  • Working knowledge of HRIS system (Workday preferred)

  • Previous experience working with insurance brokers and third parties

  • Considerable knowledge of benefit administration principles and best practices

  • Continuous improvement mindset

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to think and problem-solve in a creative, solution-oriented way
