CNSP is recruiting an Airworthiness/ Aerospace Engineer Senior to provide the US government with review, development and implementation of US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and the USAF policy and procedures.

SUMMARY

Provide the government with the review, development, and implementation of US Specials Operations Command (USSOCOM) and US Air Force (USAF) Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (SUAS) airworthiness policy and procedures. Develop Airworthiness Safety Releases (ASRs) in support of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certificates of Waiver or Authorization (COA) applications. Provide subject matter expertise and briefings on SUAS capabilities, limitations, and airworthiness documentation required to obtain FAA COAs.


  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the Air Force Special Operations Center (AFSOC) Airworthiness Safety Release (ASR) program in support of UAS statements of airworthiness. This includes reviewing the AFSOC Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) document, checklists for units requesting an ASR, and flow charts that support airworthiness evaluation reviews.
  • Draft ASR memorandums for government review, approval, and signature. The government estimates the contractor shall complete an average of 120 ASR memorandums annually. This number will fluctuate based on mission requirements.
  • Track, via an excel spreadsheet or other automated process, all ASRs that are approved and signed by the government. Monthly ASRs reports shall be provided to the COR within the first calendar week of the month. The report will include location, nomenclature of the UAS, airspace class, supporting FAA COA number, proponent, date ASR was approved, date UAS began, and ASR expiration date.
  • Assist in facilitating with USAF UAS cyber security exemptions, to include aiding units using the USAF UAS cyber exemption SharePoint site.
  • A ssist Air Force Special Operations Center Unmanned Systems Branch (AFSOC/A3OU) with informing AFSOC leadership on counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) efforts. Performance includes attending, coordinating, and conducting USAF/SOCOM C-UAS meetings, C-UAS testing/demo events, research and analysis, and providing/developing briefings associated with C-UAS efforts.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

This position does not have any Supervisory/Management authority.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required:


  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering is required. Education may be substituted with five (5) years or more of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Small UAS risk analysis and mitigations is highly desired.
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of MIL-HDBK-516, Airworthiness Certification Criteria and MIL-STD 882, Standard Practice for System Safety. In addition, the contractor employee shall have relevant work experience and a thorough understanding of the regulations, manuals, instructions, guides, directives, and references.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Candidates Must be US Citizens
  • Candidates must have a current and active Secret clearance
  • Candidates will be subject to a US federal government background investigation and be able to favorably pass a drug screen.
  • Candidates will be expected to travel CONUS and OCONUS
  • Candidates must have a valid and up to date US Passport whose expiration date is at least for one year and/or more.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills are required. Candidate shall demonstrate experience with authoring airworthiness policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of MIL-HDBK-516, Airworthiness Certification Criteria and MIL-STD 882, Standard Practice for System Safety, and Air Force Instruction 62-601, Developmental Engineering - USAF Airworthiness
