Behavioral Health Therapist at Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties in Flint, Michigan

Job Description:

We are seeking per Diem Behavioral Health Therapists for our Flint location to work with clients receiving outpatient services for Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorders. This candidate is expected to maintain a caseload of 25-30 clients.  This position does not include benefits. The therapist may work with adolescents, adults, probationers, or parolees. Therapist is expected to work till at least 6 pm – 2 nights of the week.  Therapist will have a flexible schedule.   Applicants should hold a master’s degree in social work, counseling, or psychology. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION


 


Provides therapeutic services to individuals, couples, families, and groups and represents the Agency in the field.  Therapist will be primarily responsible for conducting clinical assessments, treatment plans, quarterly treatment plan reviews, progress notes and other clinical documentation, individual and/or group therapy, and discharge planning/summaries. Experience using an electronic health record is preferred.  Works under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Director.


 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


 



  • Maintains client records in accordance with standard timelines and contractual requirements.

  • Participates in mental health and substance abuse staff development activities.

  • Informs the Director of Counseling or designee of any unsafe work conditions.

  • Notifies the Director of Counseling or designee of any clients and/or families who are experiencing child abuse, neglect, and suicidal or homicidal symptoms.  Files protective service, recipient rights, or due process reports to the appropriate agency in a timely manner.

  • Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required.

  • Performs job related duties as required for department/program operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


 


Education: 


Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related Human Service field from an accredited college or university.  MCBAP Certification of a CADC, CAADC, CCJP or other relevant MCBAP Certification or a MCBAP Development Plan towards certification within the first (30) days of employment.


 


Experience: 


Previous experience of two (2) years or a combination of education, school internship, and work experience in related behavioral health field. 


 


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES


 



  • Thorough knowledge of direct counseling, therapeutic services, and community resources.

  • Ability to make appropriate assessments and recommendations.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.

  • Strong computer skills, working with Microsoft Office with proficiency in Word and Outlook, and ability to learn new software.

  • Strong typing skills.

  • Good organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to prepare reports, maintain records, and collect and evaluate client data.

  • Ability to work with community organizations and use community resources to meet client needs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to relate to diverse populations and cultures while communicating with clients and the public in a courteous and effective manner.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees and other agencies.

 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


 



  • Must be able to talk and hear to effectively communicate and educate individuals, and communicate with supervisor and clients in a timely manner.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time; walk low-moderate distances; sit for prolonged periods of time; use hands and fingers to handle, touch, and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop or kneel; and/or crouch or crawl pending activity, event participation, and/or other work-related item within various environments.

  • Must be able to lift/move up to 25 pounds for transporting program supply materials, if needed.

  • Must be able to be flexible in various work environments and be able to drive low-moderate distances for programming, meeting, and community event activities.

  • Must be able to work in an environment that has a moderate noise level, and may experience low-moderate interruptions throughout the day while in the office, and moderate-high interruptions while in the classroom/community.

  • Must be able to tolerate changing weather conditions.

Must pass all background and clearance checks including, but not limited to a criminal background check, DHHS central registry clearance check, and others as deemed applicable, and must have a valid drivers license and carry auto insurance.


 


Individual must be able to plan, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of professional staff, have an overall general knowledge of computers and relevant software, and be willing to work irregular hours which includes evenings, holidays, and weekends, if needed.
