Position Summary:

Develops and directs all lean and continuous improvement activities. Organizes cross functional team projects aimed at eliminating waste, executing process improvements, improving material flow, implementing lean techniques, and achieving cost reductions. Will lead, conduct and participate in Kaizen events in manufacturing and transactional processes.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Facilitates the identification of projects to achieve budgeted cost savings and to reduce and eliminate operational variances


  • Reports on the progress status of all open continuous improvement projects.  Maintains project timelines, provides progress updates, and ensures projects are completed on time with the anticipated results


  • Facilitates, coordinates, and participates on cross functional teams aimed at generating projects to identify and eliminate waste.  Waste elimination should result in process performance improvements, material flow improvements and cost reductions


  • Ensures financial performance is tracked and verified for all continuous improvement projects


  • Assists Department Managers to drive departmental and individual improvement Initiatives


  • Facilitates and participates on teams aimed at the resolution of quality issues and concerns


  • Supports production control, material control, material planning departments in improvement projects relating to scheduling inventory management and raw material


  • Assists in improving overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) through downtime reduction and use of preventative maintenance and total productive maintenance.


  • Creates and performs plant training and mentoring on Lean Manufacturing tools including 6s, Visual management, Kaizen, Standard Work, 8 Wates, Error proofing, Quick changeover, TPM, Material flow, and Value Stream Mapping


  • Facilitates and leads at least two (2) kaizen events per month


  • Cascades read-across projects among similar manufacturing facilities


  • Creates and audits processes and standards to ensure sustained improvements


  • Review and submit monthly Lean savings reports to financial department


  • Maintains accurate data in systems, including, but not limited to Enterproj


  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description


Education and Qualifications:


  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or related field


  • Minimum four years’ experience utilizing Lean principles, Total Quality, 6S, KanBan, Toyota Production Systems (TPS), Six Sigma, Pull Systems, Visual Management, SMED, Standard Work, Flow Concepts, Level Load Scheduling and other problem solving CI tools


  • Possesses statistical knowledge and the ability to apply analysis techniques to product and process improvement projects


  • Experience leading and implementing change in a manufacturing/machining environment, rapid improvement teams, Kaizen events and/or other Lean projects


  • Certification in Lean is preferred


  • Ability to train others and track training effectiveness        


  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills in all areas


  • Must be driven for results, action-oriented, and possess strong problem solving skills


  • Ability to influence others internally and externally across all levels


  • Ability to manage multiple related teams, set organizational priorities and allocates resources


  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Ability to communicate in English and/or the local language within the facility


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office


  • Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary


Work Environment/Work Conditions:


  • Professional Office Environment


  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor


  • Travel to other manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required


  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
