The Director of Activities & Volunteers will plan, develop and direct the overall operation of the Health Center and ACLF activity departments in accordance with regulatory guidelines and our established policies and procedures, and assure that an on-going program of activities is designed to meet the level of interests and abilities of each resident. This individual will also oversee and direct the volunteer services that enrich the services provided to the residents in the community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Activities & Volunteers must comply with all applicable rules, policies, standards and guidelines related to employment with Westminster Services and its communities, including:
Plan and produce monthly activity calendar. Enter activities into the system.
Complete MDS and Resident Care Plans by adding quarterly progress notes.
Facilitate Resident Council Meetings and follow up on concerns or issues raised during the meetings.
Plan and manage resident’s therapeutic recreation activities and entertainment.
Manage and supervise the work for the Activities Assistants.
Prepare, plan and submit budgets to the direct supervisor for activities coordinated by the department.
Participate of Fundraising & Volunteering Activities for the community.
Supervises the staff which involves direct and indirect responsibilities for interviewing, selection, training, motivating, wage and salary administration,performance appraisal, managing policies and procedures to ensure achievement of the department’s goals.
Responsible for the strategic planning and operations of the department by implementing cost control measures and meeting budget goals.
Responsible for recruiting, screening, training, and scheduling resident volunteers, external volunteers and group volunteers.
Manage and supervise the process of assigning volunteers based on needs/requests from department heads. Ensure that volunteers are following company policies. Monitor volunteer interactions with residents and staff members.
Coordinate and support volunteers with any event/activity/council/committee conducted by the volunteers.
Responsible for managing and entering volunteer hours into the Volgistics Database program.
Responsible for advertisement of all volunteer related programs, events, and activities through newsletter publications, flyers, resident calendars and Touchtown.
Monitor and assess the need for volunteer services throughout the community and implement programs as needed. Provide information on volunteer opportunities in the community to interested residents and staff members.
Ensure volunteer retention through assignment of appropriate tasks, regular recognition practices, and conducting volunteer experience evaluations. Establish and maintain relationships with local schools, universities, nonprofit organizations and community resources in order to facilitate volunteer recruiting for the community and educate the (local) community on Westminster’s contributions by its volunteers (residents and staff members).

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Four (4) year degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related area.
Must be a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (or eligible for certification) or have a degree in Occupational Therapy with an emphasis on ADRD or certified as an Activity Director. Must have at least 4 years of significant volunteer and/or administrative experience.
Experience and Basic Knowledge:
Must have experience in recreational and activities programs in long term care within the past 2 years, dealing with independent older adults who have ADRD.
Knowledge of Event Planning required.
Knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease preferred.
Knowledge of the holiday traditions for the local community preferred.
