Job Summary:

Plans, coordinates and directs all activities within the molding and manufacturing departments ensuring all cost, deliver and quality metrics are met while driving continuous improvement.


 
Main Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for promoting a safe work environment and preventing injuries through the use of, but not limited to, 5S, job rotation, and ergonomic work practices


     


  • Oversee the molding and manufacturing plant operations during your shift and lead weekly and monthly meetings with your teams. Must have in depth knowledge of plastic injection molding operations and processes.


     


  • Work in cooperation with assembly Operations Manager who oversees the final assembly and sequencing of finish goods.


     


  • Manage all supervisors and their team members performing production operations in areas of responsibility. Must be thoroughly knowledgeable of the UAW contract, team member handbook, safety guidelines, all rules, programs and procedures that pertain to production team members.


     


  • Ensure all supervisors are maintaining accountability for safety, quality, delivery, cost and morale of their departments and personnel.


     


  • Ensure YFIMS is being followed on the shop floor and promote following established BOS practices throughout the plant.




  •  Oversee staff levels within each department by shift and ensure not to exceed authorized levels while coaching supervisors to re-assign or relieve team members to eliminate unfavorable labor variances.


  •  Understand and positively impact Key Performance Indicators balancing safety, quality, productivity, delivery, cost, scrap, labor and morale to achieve superior results in all areas through the use of defined processes.


  •  Analyse and calculate data to determine, develop, or recommend improvements in the day-to-day functions of assigned departments.

  •  Continuously analyse all departments for improved methods of production, tool design, communication, reporting, cost controls, and make recommendations to the Plant Manager for improvements. 

  • Observe production operations within area of control to ascertain compliance with methods, quality standards, safety regulations, production standards, and efficient operation of equipment. Take corrective action to eliminate any deviation.

  • Consults with team members regarding on the job problems such as low production, poor quality, poor attendance, tardiness, etc. Documents all problems and provides action plans with supervisors. Take corrective action to assure problems are resolved.

  • Ensure accuracy of all supervisor time sheets and metrics reported and hold supervisors accountable for missing targets.

  • Review all End of Shift Production Reports to ensure accuracy of information reported and take corrective actions to eliminate losses and issues

  • Schedule, train, and develop subordinate personnel including production associates.

  • Perform goal setting, career path, coaching and annual evaluations for all direct reports.


  •  Escalate issues according to approved process to ensure safety, quality and delivery metrics are met.


  •  Establish and maintain relationship with customer to handle any issues while minimizing impact.


  • Implement and promote use of lean practices throughout operations



Education: Bachelor’s degree and 10 years related manufacturing experience

Work Experience:


  • Leadership skills and supervision of large work groups. Related experience, training, education or some combination of all three may be considered.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in plastic injection molding with thorough understanding of molding theory and troubleshooting

  • Automotive experience in a Just In Time (JIT) environment preferred.

  • Mathematical skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

  • Reasoning ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Other skills: Must be computer literate and familiar with appropriate software programs. Ability to create visual aids for communication purposes. PC based software knowledge must include word-processing, spreadsheet, and email based systems.
