Job Summary

The Safety Coordinator supports and assists in promoting a safe and environmentally sound culture. The individual will lead the facility safety compliance efforts and keeps abreast of relevant health, safety and environmental policies, laws, regulations, and codes. The Safety Coordinator provides guidance to staff and management regarding safe work practices and recommends corrective action and preventive measures as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.

  • Monitor facility (at least daily) and processes for adherence to OSHA guidelines and the elimination of industrial incidents.

  • Oversee, evaluate, and continuously improve the facility’s safety program to achieve and maintain a zero-harm goal.

  • Randomly observe department audits and GEMBA walks to assure they are conducted with rigor and intensity.

  • Manage and conduct all employee safety orientations, certifications, industrial hygiene testing, classroom training, and practical hands-on plant floor training.

  • Manage and conduct emergency action plan training.

  • Facilitate safety committee and oversee plant safety project work teams.

  • Maintain all other safety related records such as Environmental waste records in accordance with all company procedures and requirements.

  • Coordinate outside services such as Environmental waste broker, Fire system vendors and safety supplies.

  • Ensure all new hire and periodic safety training are completed and documented in the training database.

  • Maintain facility incident database and ensure monthly safety audit are completed on time.

  • Ensure all safety binders, are kept up to date.

  • Regular and predictable attendance, safely perform tasks and adherence to all safety policies and procedures are essential functions of the job.

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills, Knowledge and Ability Requirements

To be considered for the Safety Coordinator position, the following conditions must be met:


  • Bachelor’s degree in safety & Health field preferred or relevant work experience equivalent to a degree.

  • Minimum 4-6 years safety experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work and deliveries.

  • Previous computer experience required.

  • Must have Forklift, Scissor Lift, and Lock Out Training experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and math aptitude

  • Must be detail oriented, organized, and have problem-solving and reasoning skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and conduct yourself professionally, with excellent written and verbal communications

  • Utilizes strong time management and organizational skills to successfully multi-task

  • Maintain business poise and professionalism under stressful situations

  • Bilingual English/Spanish required

Safety


  • This position is a largely sedentary; however, caution needs to be taken when listing files, boxes, opening file cabinet drawers, desk drawers.

  • To avoid injuries to hands, back and neck, proper ergonomics should be maintained while working at desk/workstation.

Work Environment


  • Primarily works in an office environment with controlled climate.

  • Ability to perform light hand activity work at a computer/telephone station in an office environment. Position is primarily sedentary.

  • Some duties may involve being in a plant environment where noise levels can be moderate to high and be subject to the same general climate conditions of the region (heat, cold, humidity, etc.). 

  • Chemicals, dust, pollen and other typical airborne particulate matter are present within the atmosphere of the production floor and may create some odors in the plant. The Company, in an effort to provide its employees with a safe and healthy working environment, limits exposure to chemicals through written procedures, engineering controls and PPE.

  • While the chemical exposure and odors are under acceptable levels set by OSHA and the WCB, they nevertheless, can be smelled and are handled according to the company’s hazardous communication program.
