What you'll be doing

The VP, Software Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the engineering teams focused on building the technical capabilities of the Experian consumer data management platform. The role will report to the CTO and will work in close collaboration with both the ECS and CIS product teams and other technical teams within the Experian business. The role will be a catalyst for transformation within CIS and ECS centered on data aggregation and focused on helping to evolve the way Experian collects, manages and utilizes consumer data and data sources.

This hands-on leader will direct all Artemis engineering employees focused on software development for priorities centered on: Connectors, Core/Consent, and Categorization. This team is made up of engineers who will build, maintain and improve the software applications that underpin this new platform. This leader will also need to envision an efficient future application service within the bounds of the division's strategic capabilities plan and lead the implementation of new, innovative offerings while also planning for growth and risk. The candidate will possess the business and technical depth along with engineering expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary technical deployments, in a big data environment. Additionally, the candidate will bring excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills to inspire our teams, rapidly establish trust amongst a diverse set of stakeholders.

Responsibilities


  • Develop & establish technical vision and roadmap, accounting for risks & opportunities in partnership with the ECS and CIS Architecture, Product and Engineering teams
  • Lead a team of software engineers to build a new platform, associated tools to run operations, and the end-to-end solutions in this space
  • Develop and deliver technical proof of concept which includes other technical development activities deemed necessary for platform development
  • Establish accountability & governance processes to direct & control development efforts to ensure that objectives are achieved, risks are managed appropriately & proactively, and the organization's resources are used responsibly in particular to the area of software development
  • Identify technology trends and evolving user behavior that may support or impede our technological investments, and drive innovation that leverages key technology trends such as mobile, cloud, big data, responsive design, machine learning and modern APIs. Build out plans that consider scalability of the platform
  • Work in a consultative fashion with other relevant functional leaders, such as Product Management and Architecture, as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness around data aggregation and data use
  • Support the company's culture, mission and values by providing 'leadership by example' to functional heads
  • Conduct research and case studies on our competitors' technologies and other relevant leading edge trends to make determinations on the probability of their usefulness in pursuit of our strategic goals
  • Ability to communicate the division's technology strategy to company executives

Implementation

  • Lead technical programs built by software engineers to get high-quality products, features, and workstreams through an agile, high velocity, fast-paced software project lifecycle, ensuring success metrics are informing future efforts, and quickly fine tuning the program as needed
  • Direct the implementation within the platform of enterprise-wide information security plans to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the division's applications and data
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management to discover, develop and prioritize features with maximum business value
  • Act as a good steward of the division's human resources and ensure control of team budget
  • Contribute to the broader leadership agenda on an ongoing basis and establish yourself as leader on the division's senior management team

What your background looks like


  • Successful candidate will have experience managing and implementing software engineering and architecture in an Agile methodology
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience managing or overseeing the management of mid to large-scale information technology projects, including complex cross-functional and cross-organizational projects
  • Sound understanding and appreciation for all major functional areas of IT.
  • Track record of attracting and developing a strong and diverse leadership team and IT organization.
  • Entrepreneurial and comfortable in a fast-moving, results-driven environment that includes a background in both small and large organizations
  • Successful track record of defining and executing strategic and innovative initiatives which have had major impact on company and market performance
  • Excellent leadership abilities along with proven success in building, growing and managing a highly talented and motivated organization of a significant size
