As the Senior Manager of Safety, you will lead, plan, organize and develop a staff of District Safety Managers, as well as oversee district sites to reach their goals for incident prevention and environmental, health and safety compliance. What you'll do on a typical day:


  • Direct the activities of the District Safety Managers; work closely with operations management to meet key quantifiable objectives

  • Recognize top safety performers to boost employee engagement across the company

  • Search for opportunities to improve safety performance and provide clear and frequent direction to site, district and regional leadership

  • Develop and direct regional teams across functional areas to support our road to a zero-incident culture; work with Fleet Maintenance to monitor compliance safety accountability scores and address concerns

  • Partner with regional Instructors and driver trainers to ensure education on, and compliance of, environmental, FMCSA and OSHA regulations

  • Ensure all accidents, injuries and regulatory violations are investigated, contributing factors identified and corrective plans implemented to prevent recurrence

  • Administer and evaluate safety audit procedures, provide improvement plans and program suggestions, and implement changes to ensure company and regulatory compliance

  • Establish goals and objectives for safety professionals, and implement company safety policies and procedures; guide team to utilize methodology to evaluate and develop sustainable action plans


What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you'll need:


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

  • 7 years of experience working in a supply chain, maintenance or transportation service company with some Less-than-Truckload (LTL) experience

  • 3 years of supervisory/management experience in a team-focused environment

  • Experience in transportation safety, accident/injury prevention programs, FMCSRs, DOT, Hazardous Materials and OSHA regulations

  • Ability to perform and direct moderately complex analyses in spreadsheet and database programs such as Microsoft Excel and Access; proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Valid driver's license

  • Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends; travel 50-75% of the time


It'd be great if you also have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Transportation or Safety

  • Emergency management/response and behavior-based safety experience

  • Experience creating a climate in which people want to do their best; ability to motivate and inspire personnel to support the company's safety vision

  • Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

  • Experience presenting information to a variety of audiences, including peers, direct reports and executives
