Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for the design and development of implants and/or instruments for Upper Extremities products. This is an intermediate level position for an engineer with prior experience in a professional position. In this position, the individual conducts detailed engineering work related to priority assignments. Project management responsibilities require sufficient professional expertise to assure competence as an experienced engineer as well as interpersonal skills required to work with other company disciplines. Work is expected to encompass both the development of new products and maintenance of existing products.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for all aspects of Design Controls related to design and development of new products.

Capable of developing new concepts through commercialization/launch while meeting project objectives for design requirements, quality, timing, and cost.

Able to work within a team environment from small to large project teams including

a cross-functional team framework as the Development core-team member.

Guides the work of CAD designers in creation of CAD models and product drawings.

Recommends project budget and schedule to carry out programs on a timely basis. Prepare definitive new product specifications subject to review by supervisor or other experienced engineer.

Identify all tasks required to complete project assignments according to New Product Development procedures including, but not limited to, identification of product requirements, creation concepts, proof of concepts, creation and release of initial and final drawings/specifications, engineering and tolerance analysis, design verification and validation, and release/change management of product drawings and documents.

Expected Areas of Competence

• Working knowledge of and experience with new product development including simple to complex projects

• Demonstrated ability to methodically investigate, determine appropriate solution and resolve problems using current and new technologies

• Professional, concise, tactful and sensitive in communications. Accomplishes objectives when communicating with internal personnel, and external customers and vendors. Able to diplomatically negotiate with a requester regarding a design, process, scope or timetable.

• Demonstrated good written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills. Communication/collaboration with internal cross-functional team members, surgeons, and management.

• Working knowledge of drafting standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

Education/Experience Requirements

B.S. in degree from an ABET accredited school (or global equivalent) in engineering, as preferred by the specific department.

Minimum 3 years experience required

Medical device experience preferred. Upper Extremities experience is a plus.

Travel Requirements

Up to 10%
