Personal Lines Underwriting Assistant at Penn National Mutual Casualty Insurance in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

The PL Underwriting Assistant is responsible for the processing and rating activities for automatic and manual policies for multiple states and lines of business and assists in training of other members of the Personal Lines Processing Center to ensure that quality products and superior service are provided to our agents.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Processes automatic and manual policy transactions for personal lines business for multiple states and all personal lines business.

 

Must maintain entry standards in both quality and volume of work once trained.

 

Complete requests to the agents for documents and forms as required in the agents interface audit process.

 

Processes renewal questionnaires (QPC’s).

 

Provide assistance to the Underwriters with quoting and entry of rollover new business from agents.

 

Initiate and follow-up on correspondence with agents on routine matters.

 

Performing backouts or rewrites on the automated systems.

 

Handles ‘Good” Inspections with contact to agents on individual policies as needed.

 

Handles Terminated Agents listing to issue proper ODEN notices and support as Direct Insured’s for applicable states. 

 

Completes Quotes to support new agency appointments.

 

Assists with Insurance Department audits.

 

Trains less experienced staff and new employees on new activities as assigned.

 

Provides assistance on other projects/duties as assigned.

 

Provides support through Imaging the distribution of non-automated New Business applications and manual renewals. (Image Right Coordinator).

 

Provides backup support to TST position when workload dictates.

 

Provides support to Processing Manager with distribution of paper task when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education/Credentials:

 

High School Diploma or GED required.  

 

Successful completion of INS 21, 22 and/or 23 preferred.

 

Experience:

 

1 to 2 years’ experience in a clerical support position, preferably in the property/casualty insurance industry.

 

Strong keyboard, data entry and typing skills required.

 

Good interpersonal skills.

 

Good oral and written communication skills.

 

Basic math skills.

 

Good PC skills, with an emphasis on Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

 

Good proof-reading skills.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (as required by ADA)

 

Must have the ability to operate a computer, keyboard and all applicable printers/copiers and other general office equipment.

 

Must have the ability to lift and carry 10 lbs on a regular basis.

 

Must have the ability to hear while communicating via phone to internal/external customers.

 

Primarily a sedentary position that requires occasional standing and walking throughout the office environment.

 

Must be able to maintain acceptable attendance and adhere to scheduled work hours.

 

Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in written format.
