Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive product engineering support in its Los Angeles manufacturing facility to support batteries and Proterra’s Sr. Manager, Technology Development and other site leadership team members.  This includes various technical activities for new customers, change management and sustaining engineering.  The role reports to the central battery product engineering team.

About the Role – You will:


  • Function as subject matter expert for all battery engineering designs in the production facility.

  • Primary engineering support for quality engineering FAI (First Article) activities and disposition of material

  • Engineering support for investigation of parts failures in production

  • Recommend and execute deviations from standard production processes and parts

  • Translate validation test results into actionable parts and process design recommendations

  • Design and execute line trials for new parts from engineering

  • Represent engineering organization during change management process

  • Champion cost down efforts for engineering

  • Non-production/Prototype build coordination and engineering support

  • Other tasks as assigned by management

  • You will report to the Manager, Technology Development and collaborate with other Battery Engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles, CA and Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent relevant experience

  • CAD/3D modeling experience with example projects

  • Understanding of GD&T Principles

  • Thrives in a manufacturing environment

  • 3+ years of experience

  • Strong communication and technical problem-solving skills

  • Willing to travel for initial and ongoing product technical training

  • Proficiency in CATIA V6, 3DX (is a plus)

Travel: 10%+ (willing to travel for initial and ongoing product technical training
