The Program Director (PD) in conjunction with the Resident Services Director (RSD) oversees the day-to-day operations of the Community's Ensemble neighborhood in accordance with the Ensemble Philosophy of Care, under the supervision of the Executive Director (ED). In order to execute this job successfully, the PD must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty within the specified areas of responsibility. In addition, supervision of the Department must be in strict accordance with Company policies and procedures with an emphasis on effective and efficient realization of the owner's goals.

The areas of responsibility listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Areas of Responsibility:

The primary areas of responsibility for this position are day-to-day operations for the neighborhoods to include; Resident Enrichment, Safety, Support Services, and Professional Development:

RESIDENT ENRICHMENT: Under supervision of ED, oversee operations of Ensemble neighborhoods to include administrative duties, compliance with operating budget through use of purchase order system and budget control procedures, ordering materials/supplies, record keeping, generation of reports, etc.


  • In cooperation with the RSD, coordinate appropriate programming and interaction skills with Care Staff. Serve as a champion for the Philosophy of Care through both modeling and training of associates.
  • Be familiar with each resident's history and profile to include: cognitive diagnosis, physical health condition, social support system (family & friends), prior living arrangements, typical and challenging behaviors, preferred daily routine, emotional triggers (fears, anxieties, etc.), recreational interests and abilities and spiritual preferences and habits.
  • With assistance of RSD and ED, design and implement user-friendly system whereby Care Staff can become knowledgeable of each resident history and profile and assure use of the system on a daily basis.
  • Maintain initial and on-going close communication with resident family to promote positive relations and facilitate excellent resident care.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive activities plan for each resident. Update as needed or required.
  • Provide services and interactions throughout the Community which delight residents, prospects, and the greater community with inspired experiences which result in referrals and high occupancy.
  • Execute Ensemble Care specialized programs and train associates on components of program.

SAFETY: Promote a safe environment for residents, associates, and visitors.


  • Maintain integrity of neighborhood security system. With assistance from ED and RSD, develop and implement emergency plan for security breeches.
  • Assist in educating associates and resident responsible party on resident emergency response system.
  • Collaborate with RSD and ED to promote and train associates on appropriate safety techniques when assisting residents.
  • Assure associates usage of personal protective equipment.
  • Evaluate safety of environment on daily basis, identifying and addressing potential safety hazards. Assure that all cleaning materials and any other chemicals are kept in secured locations and not within reach of residents.
  • Assure that resident units are kept clean and tidy.
  • Serve on Community Safety Committee.
  • Facilitate and oversee neighborhoods participation in Community emergency drills and evacuations.
  • Promote the safety of resident use of outdoor courtyard, including prevention of prolonged exposure to extreme heat, cold or inclement weather.
  • When accompanying residents on outings, must account for resident whereabouts at all times in accordance with the Ensemble Outings policy. Communicate all incidences/accidents to RSD and ED in a timely manner.

SUPPORT: Collaborate with others to promote effective and efficient operations of neighborhoods.


  • Work closely with Department Heads and all associates to fully integrate neighborhoods into culture of Community.
  • Work in partnership with the RSD to ensure resident care needs are being met by the Care Staff - Ensemble.
  • Develop and implement individual activity plan for each resident.
  • Design and execute comprehensive activity program to meet individual and group interests.
  • Be prepared to drive the property vehicles on an as needed basis.
  • Must know and follow all guidelines in the Vehicles policy (Risk Management).
  • Collaborate with Dining Services Director to assure quality meal service and menu selection.
  • Work with the Sales & Marketing department to market the neighborhood. Assist with tours, meet with families, etc. Make presentations as requested. Maintain outreach and education efforts.
  • Work with Environmental Services Director/Maintenance Director and Housekeeping Supervisor/Housekeeping Director to promote a safe and clean environment.
  • Recruit, hire, and train, provide on going supervision, evaluate and recognize associates.
  • Develop budget, day-to-day expenditures, and budget control.
  • Assist with development and/or refinement of policies and procedures. Make recommendations for new policies and changes to existing ones.
  • Develop and implement programs, events, and support services that benefit families.
  • Assist ED with surveys. Have working knowledge of Assisted Living certification regulations.
  • Collaborate with the RSD to schedule service plan meetings on residents in Ensemble program, to include resident, family, and/or responsible party as appropriate.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Actively participate in the development of self and others.


  • Always present self in professional, respectful and cooperative manner to others, including Community associates.
  • Schedule and lead department meetings.
  • Support Community and outreach events.
  • Serve as a leader, positive role model and mentor.
  • Remain educated and up-to-date in dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Collaborate with professional organizations such as the Alzheimer's Association as needed to promote excellence and best practices and problem solving in dementia care.
  • Attend and participate in all meetings and training as required by Company policy and the ED.
  • Maintain professional standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag when on duty.
  • Be constantly watchful for signs that residents are not able to function at their usual level or a change in behavior. Report all signs to the ED following the Company policies and procedures.
  • Report any and all deferred maintenance, vandalism or hazardous situations to the ED as discovered and take appropriate action as necessary.
  • Ensure understanding of and compliance with all regulations regarding residents' rights.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident, associate, Community or Company information deemed as such.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Special Requirements/Certifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. State specific guidelines may apply.
  • Minimum two-year college degree or equivalent experience.
  • Must have documentation of training on Alzheimer's disease.
  • Certification in Activities preferred.
  • Must have Assisted Living training or certification, or be willing to obtain same within 2 years of employment.
  • Must have, or be willing and able to obtain, required certification as an Assisted Living Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorder trainer within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, CPR/AED certification
  • Must have or be willing to obtain food handling certification per state guidelines.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience working with persons diagnosed with dementia; minimum one (1) year supervisory experience.
  • Must have working knowledge of appropriate Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills to include attention to detail, time management, prioritizing, initiative, delegation, follow through, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must also have demonstrated decision making, problem solving, leadership and negotiation skills.
  • Superior verbal and written skills are essential.
  • Must have a positive Criminal Background Screening.
  • Must pass a physical having no signs or symptoms of a communicable disease including tuberculosis where required. Freedom from tuberculosis must be documented on an annual basis where required.
  • The Community is a drug free workplace; associates are subject to adherence to the Company Drug Free Workplace policy.
  • Must have a means of transportation.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license (Commercial Driver's License (CDL) if required) for the state where the vehicle is operated.
  • Must have an acceptable Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) record; the record must be checked annually.
  • Must be considered to be insurable by the Community's automobile insurance carrier.
  • Must not have the following:

    • Driver's license denied or revoked within the last three (3) years.
    • Two (2) or more suspensions (with reinstatement), within three (3) years or currently suspended license without reinstatement. Suspensions for certain offenses will not be considered for the purposes of this requirement, i.e.: unpaid tickets, failure to appear, underage use of tobacco, and failure to pay child support.
    • Any major DMV citation in the last five (5) years. Major citations include, but are not limited to: DUI, DWI, speeding in excess of 25 mph, reckless driving, careless driving, vehicular homicide, manslaughter, or any citation punishable by incarceration.
    • Two (2) or more at fault accidents within the last three (3) years.
    • Three (3) or more moving violations within the last five (5) years.

  • Must be able to pass a driving safety test while driving the Community vehicle.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age but not more than seventy (70) years of age. If over 70 years of age, the driver must provide documentation from their primary care physician that they are capable of operating the assigned vehicle. This documentation must be renewed every year.
