TASK DESCRIPTION:

Aircraft Mechanic III (23023): Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs. A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. This worker also applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required. Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. This worker will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records, and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts. 

Additional Qualifications/Experience Requirements Mechanic III (Electrician):

Electrical Experience: Minimum of six years of total experience in aircraft maintenance as an aircraft electrician. The Contractor shall have the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts and accessories/components and the skill to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Aircraft modification experience a plus. Solder experience/certification is a requirement. Experience using specialized tools required for military aviation electrical connector assembly/disassembly and other associated electrical terminating devices is required.

Electrical Knowledge: The Contractor shall have the ability to follow and accomplish tasks in accordance with existing published technical data. The Contractor shall have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications required to accomplish maintenance tasks and modifications. Knowledge is mandatory of electrical, electronic, microelectronic, mechanical and indicator principles theory, and application relating to electrical systems; concepts and application of maintenance directives; the meaning of symbols used in wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics; using and interpreting testing and measuring devices; and proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.

Other: Normal color vision as defined in AFI 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards is mandatory for this specialty.

Responsibility:   Performs requirements in accordance with the procedures established in the PWS. Performs diagnosis and corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs, lays out work according to technical instructions and technical directives.  Determines what repairs, modifications, and part replacements are required. May be required to verify work performed by another for which he/she is qualified to perform.

Task Requirements:


  • May be assigned Team Lead duties

  • Aircraft depot-level maintenance functions to facilitate Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTOs) on B-52H aircraft

  • TCTO Kit Inventories

  • Installation and testing of TCTO

  • Perform all work in accordance with applicable publications, technical directives, instructions, standards, and procedures contained in pertinent manuals utilizing blueprints, drawings, and/or schematics as provided by the associated units COR

  • Tag and label all removed and replaced parts/materials per the TCTO(s) by modification completion

  • Inspect the aircraft to certify that all modifications performed by the team are correct and complete IAW equipment-specific technical orders.

  • Performs inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation

  • Aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means

  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic systems.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement, and diagnostic equipment, and sets kits and outfits (SKO).

  • Inspect, repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft components/sub-components to include rigging of flight control.

  • Read and interpret manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

  • Support Equipment (SE) operation and inspections

  • Aircraft inspections

  • Corrosion Control

  • Technical Directive compliance and modifications

  • Perform general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment

  • Perform shift work and/or overtime as required

  • Requisition repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through military supply system.

  • Perform other tasks as directed.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Seven or more years’ B-52 aviation maintenance experience

  • Ten or more years’ aviation maintenance experience

Basic Qualifications:


  • Individual (I) Aircraft Maintenance Qualification

  • Minimum of six years total experience in aircraft maintenance as an aircraft electrician

  • Solder experience/certification is a requirement.

  • Experience using specialized tools required for military aviation electrical connector assembly/disassembly and other associated electrical terminating devices is required.

  • Must be able to work shift schedules as required per Performance Work Statement (PWS)

  • Must be able to work work-week schedules i.e. M-F, Sn-Th, or as required per PWS

  • Must be able to pass a background check

  • Must be able to obtain favorable National Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI), IAW DTM-08-003 “Next Generation Common Access Card (CAC) Implementation Guidance prior to being able to work

  • Shall have Secret or Interim Secret prior to being issued a Restricted Area Badge

  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft

  • Must be able to use hand and power tools

  • Must have the dexterity to handle small parts

  • Must be able to travel if required

Employment is contingent on a) your ability to provide appropriate proof of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States; (b) your references and any background check being satisfactory to the Company; (c) you successfully passing a pre-employment drug test; and d) your ability to get a required clearance by your effective start date if needed; and (e) KAI commencing performance on this contract.
