The Behavioral Specialist serves as a teacher/coach/role model for staff and youth in and outside the area of the therapeutic milieu. The Behavioral Specialist is expected to facilitate all crisis resolution in a manner which promotes the learning of self-control and reinforces constructive problem solving with the youth involved.  Provides crisis intervention support in or off the units to ensure the safety of youth and staff, and to assist in maintaining the structure and organization of the environment. The position responds quickly and skillfully to a variety of crises (individual and group) consistent with the philosophy of the agency.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or related Human Services field, with a minimum of two years' experience working with emotionally or behaviorally challenged children.  Individuals with training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) a plus.  Must have the ability to respond to crisis situations involving behavioral problems of severely emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children, assess the crisis situations, and determine the appropriate level of intervention required.  Valid Maryland driver's license with less than three points required.
