Job Description:


Position Responsibilities:


  • Constructs and repairs items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes, using specifications; and measures, marks, and cuts boards, using patterns, templates, ruler, pencil, and hand and power saws.
  • Fastens or installs parts, using hammer, nailing machine, or power staple, repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts, inserts wood bracing, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers.
  • May build crate around object, using ruler, hand tools, and pneumatic nailer, may fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on crates, containers, or vehicles, apply preservative to prolong wood life, and may pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers.
  • Must be able to safely operate the following hand and power tools and equipment used in the packing operation:

    • Hand tools - hammer, saws, nail pullers, wrenches, ratchet & socket sets, screwdrivers, banding stretchers & sealers, staple guns, hand trucks, pry-bars, chisels, box & fiberboard cutting knives, metal shears, squares, compass, calipers, and measuring devices.
    • Power tools - both pneumatic & electric nailing guns, staples guns, impact wrenches, circular saws, reciprocating saws, and hand drills.
    • Equipment - Table saws, cut-off saws, band saws, gang saws, planer, pipe threader, metal cutting saws, drill press, grinding machine and posses a motor vehicle and forklift license for forklifts up to 20k.

  • Uses DSS and other Government Data Systems in the performance of the PWS requirements.

Qualifications:


  • Must apply a full range of knowledge of woodworking techniques to plan, construct, and repair standardized shipping and storage containers.
  • The candidate must have skill in measuring, developing, and laying out changes to existing container plans where specially shaped items require unconventional cradles, blocks, braces, or cushioning.
  • The candidate should be able to make standard joints and grooves such as dado, lap, rabbet, tongue and groove, miter cuts, and doweled edge joints required for secure and weather tight containers.
  • Woodworker must have knowledge of a wide range of packing methods and techniques to determine materials and methods required for standard container construction.
  • The candidate should have skill in using woodworking, measuring, and layout devices. Woodworker have skill in combining and modifying existing plans for conventional containers to construct irregular shaped containers.
  • The candidate should have skills in using standard woodworking tools, both manual and power, as well as pneumatic sealers, heat sealing and vacuum equipment, nail guns, and strapping tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge to operate and perform required duties using US Army Logistical Information System and normally approved office computer automation equipment.
  • Woodworker must be able to analyze, plan and complete complex tasking with little to no supervision. Woodworker lead must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with War fighter and customers.
