Overview:

Assist patients in seeking alternative financing and /or assistance; provides support to patients in completing financial statements, Medicaid and other federal program applications, and filing of applications. Establishing payment plans and collection of payments. Provides patient education of financial policies; provides ongoing support for Point-of-Service initiatives: focuses on uninsured, underinsured and credit risk patients. Document actions taken, answer inquires involving individual accounts, and researches problem accounts to assure resolution for payment. Exhibit role model behavior and provide excellent customer service at all times to both internal and external customers. Interacts effectively with Patient Accounting, Medical Records, Nursing, Care Coordination, and other Admitting co-workers to ensure patient billing questions are answered in a timely manner. The Financial Coordinator must demonstrate computer system proficiency and specific technical ability/skills in reporting, tracking capabilities/spreadsheets and databases. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Experience and Education Requirements:

1-3 years clerical experience preferred. Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred. High School diploma required some college helpful.

Minimum skills, knowledge and ability requirements:

* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, excellent telephone etiquette required.

* Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff and insurance companies.

* Strong organizational skills; attention to detail

* Ability to work under stress, meet deadlines and perform all daily assignments with a high level of accuracy.

* Knowledgeable and experienced with various computers systems; Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard.
