Position Description

Primary purpose:
Responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of gas pipeline and related field operations.

Essential duties and responsibilities:


  • Install, repair, service and maintain valves, pipe, and pipeline appurtenances, as applicable.


  • Responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment, including pipeline right-of-way.


  • Oversee construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties, including monitoring of 811 one-call tickets.


  • Inspect work completed by company third party contractors and construction crews.


  • Conduct pigging activities when necessary.


  • Perform governmental compliance activities including but not limited to: line patrol, road and railroad crossing inspections and valve inspections.


  • Perform minor electrical maintenance.


  • Participate in the development of project scopes and work plans.


  • Represent the Company during contacts with landowner/tenants, public officials/emergency officials and at local meetings.


  • Identify report and correct safety and environmental concerns.


  • Provide detailed information to assist with the creation, planning, forecasting and managing of the operations budgets.


  • Maintain records of company expenses to assist with cash flow management, cost monitoring and control.


  • Provide input for the development of O&M procedures, project scope of work and work plans.


  • Complete all applicable documentation and record keeping.


  • Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, regulatory, and company tariff requirements.


  • Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.


  • Communicate work activities to appropriate parties.


  • Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.


  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of employees, general public and company assets.


  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Position Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.


Competencies, skills, and abilities:

  • Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, various operating systems, and ability to learn company software).


  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.


  • Strong customer focus.


  • Available for periodic shift work and overtime.


  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules


  • Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, document and complete work with minimum supervision.


  • Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers.


  • Required to perform call-out duties after regular business hours.


  • May be required to carry a company-provided communication device (cell phone) and respond both during working and non-working hours to emergency calls.



Preferred knowledge and skills:

  • 2 yr. Mechanical/Technical degree highly preferred.


  • Pipeline construction and inspection experience.


  • Transmission pipeline systems operations.


  • Operating costs and best practices associated with natural gas pipeline equipment.


  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, pipeline and instrumentation diagrams as well as other plans, maps and similar.


  • Safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquid and high/low pressure systems.



Certifications, licenses, registrations:

  • Possess and maintain a clean and valid driver's license to meet company insurability requirements.


  • Achieve and maintain all Operator Qualifications and progression requirements applicable to the job classification.


  • May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties.


Working conditions/Physical Demands:


  • Must live within 30 miles of reporting location.


  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions


  • Must be able to frequently enter confined spaces, climb to and work from elevated platforms, excavated areas, ladders, stairwells, walkways, etc.


  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist (occasional)


  • May work in low-lit areas


  • Depending upon the location and workload, travel will be required


  • Overtime may be required and is anticipated.
