The role is focused on supporting our New Product Development teams to develop robust Manufacturing Strategies that lead to successful commercialization of new medical devices. Commercialization risks are managed using innovative analytics & data visualization tools to influence and drive sound business decisions related to product life-cycle management, manufacturing strategy, and capacity planning. Participate in design reviews and influence R&D's Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing to be compatible with Medtronic's Design for Cell Operating System program. The role includes conducting Industrial Engineering studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control and production record systems. Based on these studies, develops and implements plans and programs for facility modifications and revisions to operating methods as well as visualizations for reporting to leadership.

A Day in the Life:
1. Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
2. Designs and arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
3. Designs and sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
4. Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
5. May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
6. Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
7. Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.
8. Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
9. Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
10. Develops solutions to a variety of routine problems using computer and logic-based methods
11. Creates flexible capacity models and sensitivity analysis to evaluate the end-to-end value stream of a product line and/or product family in support of Launch strategy & ramp plan development
12. Financial Analysis - Develop standard cost and Start up expense / learning curve estimates; complete Make vs. Buy analysis in support of Mfg. Strategy development & site selection
13. Thorough understanding of Industrial Engineering concepts with a significant focus on analysis (primarily financial & capacity related).
14. Frequent (verbal and written) communications; present to both peers and management
15. Act as key liaison between Plant Operations, New Product Development, and Commercial teams.
16. Collaborate with Tooling and R&D Manufacturing Engineers to develop flexible manufacturing cell designs aligned with Lean Mfg. concepts and the Medtronic Cell Operating System (COS)
17. Completes time studies & line balances, generates line layouts, Manufacturing Simulation modeling, etc.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or other technical field
-2+ years of experience with Bachelor's degree or 0+ years of experience with Advanced degree.

Nice to Have:

  • 1-3 years of experience with high volume products in a highly regulated industry

  • Understanding of Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing analysis principles.

  • Understanding of process validation and qualification of Assembly equipment.

  • Skilled with MS Excel. Experience with SQL, VBA, & Power BI data visualization software is a plus.

  • Industrial Engineering background including capacity planning/modeling, time-studies, balance tables and flexible work-cell development, financial analysis, and standard cost development

  • Basic understanding of financial analysis

  • General understanding of Six Sigma Tools, Lean Manufacturing Concepts

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:
    This position is a part of the Operations AME team within SI Engineering. It supports New Product Development and Commercialization at Surgical Innovations manufacturing locations and R&D centers.
