Major Responsibilities




  • Review system and/or order to determine what is short or out; Verify quantity in carton does not match order quantity; Utilize warehouse technology to ‘look up’ alternate locations for item; Travel to home location to verify location is empty; Travel to alternate location(s); Obtain carton from bulk location or eaches from shelf location; transport carton/eaches to home location and stock location; Remove quantity needed to fill order and travel back to mark-out area with product; Document receipt transactions and follow warehouse technology procedures to process order.

  • Obtain bag and/or carton from conveyor; Transport carton and/or bag to appropriate staging location; Place carton or bag in staging location; Shrink wrap pallet when complete; Write appropriate information on pallet placard or shrink wrap; Load pallet on truck; Secure and stabilize cartons and pallets throughout the loading process.

  • Obtain pallet or cartons from staging area; Remove shrink wrap; Inspect product for concealed damage; Remove and stage shelf cartons if necessary; Transport product to appropriate zone or location; Remove carton(s) from pallet, green rack or cart; Place carton(s) in location; Remove and stage empty pallet in appropriate location.

  • Obtain pick labels from appropriate location; Travel to appropriate pick location; Obtain appropriate item and quantity from pick location; Peal and place shipping/pick label on carton; Follow packing slip process and apply to carton as necessary; Place carton on conveyor or rolling equipment; Transport cartons to appropriate location; Unload cartons to line/conveyor/bin or palletize cartons, apply stretch wrap and stage pallet; Stock “HOT Replenishments” as needed.

  • Ensure proper trailer docking procedures are followed; Unload trailer, stage product and inspect for damages; Validate all paperwork to the load (i.e., piece count, signatures, etc.); Inspect pallets for quantity & damages; Remove damaged product; Properly annotate discrepancies on freight bill or appropriate documents; Utilize warehouse technology to verify and process freight and create receiving manifest.

  • Obtain pallet from staging area; Create or obtain manifest for inbound product; Inspect pallets for quality; Remove packing slip and shrink wrap; Verify item(s) and quantity match packing slip; Utilize warehouse technologies to print receipt tickets; Place receipt tickets on correct item(s) on pallet; Sort pallet between bulk and shelf items; Transport pallet or cartons to appropriate staging locations.

  • Obtain returns pallet from staging area; Obtain and enter return authorization number into warehouse technology; Print applicable Return Goods Report; Obtain carton or item from pallet; Remove items from carton if necessary; Verify quality, item and quantity of returned items; Utilize warehouse technology to print and apply return ticket(s); Place item in appropriate staging location; Transport staged product to appropriate warehouse locations.

  • Inspect item for quality assurance; Remove items(s) from carton; Clean item (if necessary); Repackage item (if necessary); Repair item (if necessary); Disposition item to appropriate location; Complete necessary oral and written communication (i.e., order supplies; credit or return information); Transport and/or stage item as appropriate.

  • Understands and demonstrates Essendants' Core Values.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Skills/Knowledge Required




  • Ability to perform all required tasks within the scope of Distribution 2 to the level of established productivity required and in keeping with applicable Standard Operating Procedures, rules, established processes and Quality guidelines.

  • Ability to operate equipment in a safe and controlled manner, i.e., box erector, tape machine, Taylor Dunn, pallet jack and walkie-rider.

  • Ability to leverage appropriate technology in an effective manner in performance of the function, i.e., pick-to-voice, computer, scanner, etc.

  • Ability to perform all tasks in a safe manner, following all safety rules and guidelines.

  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized work area; ability to assist with housekeeping tasks in the facility/work area.

  • Assist with Distribution Associate 1 functions as required.

  • Ability to follow simple directions (verbal and written) in English.

  • Ability to perform basic math.



Education and Experience




  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • Warehouse/Distribution-related experience preferred.

  • Experience in forklift operation required. Certification in forklift operation preferred.
