Summary

The Full Stack .NET Developer will be supporting The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). This position will implement web applications, open source web frameworks, write unit tests and collaborate closely with developers to design and develop new web applications and features.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Required Skills and Experience:


  • Implement Java and Groovy web applications, using Java 8 and open source web frameworks (Grails, Spring Beans, Spring MVC, Spring Transactions, Spring Security, Spring Boot and/or other Spring modules)
  • Write unit tests and advocate for highly testable code
  • Collaborate closely with other developers to design and develop new web applications and features
  • Perform code reviews of others' work
  • Develop and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, and functional)
  • Engage in all aspects of sprint planning, including business analysis, gathering requirements directly from the FWS business team, breaking requirements into user stories, and providing work estimates
  • Gather and understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements
  • Interact directly with product owners and application end users
  • Independently manage the process of defining, scoping, estimating, communicating, completing, and documenting work on a consistent basis without supervision.
  • Beyond writing tidy code, has a strong grasp of overarching patterns and antipatterns in software architecture. Understands the principles of good architecture and is able to strategize about their application. (E.g., encapsulation, cohesion, coupling, computational complexity, caching, asynchronicity, denormalization, thread safety, fault tolerance, resource management, testability, scalability, maintainability, etc.)
  • Beyond expertise with a language, framework, process, or toolset, understands the problems that languages and frameworks solve, has at least a high level understanding of many of the languages and frameworks available, and is able to evaluate the pros and cons of possible new solutions with an eye toward performance, long term viability, and return on investment.
  • Self-motivated to work towards the common goals of the group, a champion of positive culture and a performance excellence, and be continually innovative in search of effective solutions.
  • Maintain excellent communication with all developers, supervisors, and staff in written and verbal form.
  • Support developer teams in projects and operations through Linux Systems Administration.
  • Possess a solid understanding of databases; particularly PostgreSQL, and experience beyond the user level
  • Collaborate with team members in the design and implementation of Docker images used to deploy a variety of applications
  • Design, implement, and maintain the container deployment platform
  • VMware maintenance and support.
  • Regular Maintenance and update tasks for servers such as Apache, Tomcat, RedHat Linux and CentOS operating systems, and software running in the environment like Artifactory, Ansible, SOLR, etc.
  • Assist with support functions for applications running in a Kubernetes environment.
  • A good understanding of Enterprise Windows systems and Active Directory is a plus.
  • Must have a basic understanding of computer networking and understand the roles of DNS, DHCP, Kerberos LDAP, etc. in an enterprise environment.
  • Monitoring the ECOS environments, addressing or assisting with operational issues, performing routine maintenance, working with developers to deliver the required environment and other duties as directed.
  • Install and configure software.
  • Document issue resolution using the Help Desk ticketing system (JIRA).
  • Help to maintain inventory of all hardware and software resources as deployed.

Supervisory/Management Authority:

This position will not have supervisory or management authority.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related curriculum, or equivalent education and experience


  • Minimum of 3+ years developing .NET applications


  • Experience using MS Office 365 Power Tools and Apps


  • Experience reverse engineering software applications.
