JOB ANALYSIS
TRUCK DRIVER- 3
Skill Level 3: Can perform all basic driving functions of Levels 1 & 2 with emphasis on handling Flatbeds.
REQUIREMENTS:
This position is responsible to the Plant Manager/Operations Manager through the Scale Operator/Dispatcher. The main duties of this job involve the safe and efficient delivery or pickup of any material, product, machinery, etc., as assigned. Must have the ability to manually push, pull, and lift some equipment and materials as needed. In all instances that a mechanical means is possible, it is done in this manner, but some manual exertion is still required. Teamwork and cooperation are critical to the success of the plant. Every teammate has the authority and ability to voice their opinions and participate in the decision-making process. Along with this authority comes the responsibility of doing what needs to be done to maintain the efficiency and consistency of the trucking & production operation. Must perform all duties in a manner consistent with PAPER STOCK DEALER S and SONOCO's best safety practices and report any damage or unsafe conditions immediately.
EDUCATION - TRAINING - EXPERIENCE
High school Diploma or GED preferred along with specialized courses and/or training as determined by plant management. Driver training/CDL a must.
REQUIREMENTS
MENTAL EFFORT
Work Knowledge: Knowledge of DOT, Company, State and Federal laws regarding the safe operation of vehicles assigned.
Mathematics used: Arithmetic/basic math
Receives supervision & prepares daily log and trip sheets. Understands how to deal with Monotony, Distractions. Personal Qualities Needed are High Intelligence, Patience, Dependability and Pleasant Attitude.
SKILL
Physical: Operation of assigned OTR vehicle, fork truck and other material handling equipment
Analytical: Identifying grade of incoming material, Mental: Comprehension of all rules/regulations regarding safe operation of vehicle, Manual: Ability to safely drive and maneuver a tractor & trailer or assigned vehicle.

Kinds of materials: Scrap paper/plastic/metal, baling wire
HOURS WORKED
1shifts/day (7 to 4)
Monday thru Friday (Saturdays when required)
8-hour days plus overtime when required
DESCRIPTION OF TASKS REFERENCE POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR COMPLETE DETAILS. * Required to observe all traffic signs, rules, and regulations in addition to maintaining maximum safe speeds under all driving conditions such as fog, rain, sleet, snow, etc.
* May receive orders or instruction from any number of convenient sources to expedite communications from supervision.
* Responsible for having complete familiarity and comply with all DOT and Company rules/regulations regarding vehicle and the requirements regarding records-daily log.
* Responsible for either performing or aiding company, customer, or supplier personnel in the loading, unloading, or rearranging of any shifted load of material, product, etc hauled.
* Responsible for seeing that the correct items being delivered/picked up are the correct quantity.
* Responsible for exercising extreme courtesy and willingness to comply with all customer/supplier regulations regarding delivery/pickup.
* Must, to any degree possible within DOT regulations, schedule driving, breaks, time off, eating, etc., so as to comply with delivery/pickup deadlines as specified by supervision.
* Minimize off-duty time while on the road to complete each trip in the most safe and shortest time possible.
* Responsible for maintaining interior cleanliness of vehicle and periodically checking safety of vehicle while enroute.
* Strictly obeys all DOT/Company rules regarding unauthorized passengers/stops.
* Handle bales carefully to prevent breakage.
* Safe and efficient operation of a Fork Truck for use in handling bales, boxes, racks, bins, equipment, scrap rolls, etc. from one area of the plant to another. This also involves driving in the waste paper area among other vehicles. Must be licensed by Sonoco or the designated agent.
* Performs routine service and care of fork trucks, as assigned. Documents inspections.
* Spotting trailers for loading or unloading.
* Matches bill-of-laden with correct trailer (weight in & out) and records weights in office.
* Maintains proper housekeeping around plant areas and loading dock on a daily basis.
* Filling vacancies during absences.
* Perform other tasks or duties as assigned that relate to the safety, housekeeping or operation of the plant.
