Job Description

InterMetro Industries is seeking a Design Engineer for our Research & Development department located in Wilkes-Barre, PA. This is an outstanding opportunity for the right individual to join an award winning team. Job Purpose:

The Design Engineer designs and develops new products and improves existing products in accordance with Metro's procedures and protocols. Also mentors less experienced engineers, and drives continuous improvement within Research & Development and Metro.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Utilizes CAD tools to design and analyze parts and assemblies.
2. Analyzes components for performance, reliability, durability.
3. Select materials and sub-components for inclusion in the designed components.
4. Prepares design documents to describe the components sufficient to procure or manufacture.
5. Performs, compiles and evaluates tests on designed components & systems.
6. Leads reviews of new product designs.
7. Performs/reviews failure analysis of products and generates reports.
8. Provides information to generate purchase orders for prototype parts.
9. Works with Manufacturing/Operations to resolve issues or incorporate improvements related to product design.
10. Prepares and presents project updates to corporate staff (PDC).
11. Guides work of others who perform essentially the same work. May organize, set priorities, schedule and review work, but has no responsibility to hire, terminate, review performance, or make pay decisions.
12. Assists in planning, monitoring, and/or managing budget in functional area of department.
13. Employee: Possesses knowledge and understanding of the Metro Code of Business Ethics.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field

- A minimum of six years relevant work experience, specifically in Engineering with a focus on Electrical Engineering in the Foodservice Equipment Industry

- Exceptional mathematical, communication, and problem solving skills

- The ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Lean Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing

- Familiar with design documentation including drawing practices and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing ( GD&T)

- Familiar with advanced mechanical engineering concepts, practices, and procedures and significant experience in application of this knowledge to the design of product.

- Familiar with manufacturing processes and the interaction of design with the method of manufacture to be used to produce the item.
