This job opening is for an Applications Engineer (AE) in the Product Support Group of Synopsys Optical Solutions Group (OSG), primarily supporting our CODE V optical design software product. CODE V is a very well-established software package used in the design of the world's most advanced imaging systems, worldwide. CODE V was introduced in 1975 and has shown steady growth ever since and is now used throughout the optics industry on nearly every type of imaging design. CODE V has industry-leading optimization and tolerancing capabilities as well as advanced expert systems that assist newer optical engineers by giving them access to our decades of optical design expertise.
We are currently looking for an early to mid-career level optical engineer to provide technical outreach for our products to existing and potential customers. The description of duties below, particularly with respect to travel, will apply after the end of the COVID 19 lockdown. Until then, similar duties will apply, but will be conducted remotely, likely from a home office. Duties will include:
- Producing, editing and presenting talks on subjects related to CODE V, such as overviews of the latest features, software strengths, novel use techniques, and engineering case studies. Presentation forums will include user-day events, individual customer sites, open webinars, and internal venues.
- Conducting customer tours to visit existing customers and prospects throughout North America and worldwide. These visits are for presenting the latest developments and techniques for using CODE V as well as for assisting customers with problems or questions they may have, and for gathering improvement requests and relaying those requests effectively to product management. Responsibility includes follow up and resolution of customer issues encountered during the visits.
- Working closely with a dedicated team of support engineers and marketing professionals to support new product launches with technical marketing materials, documentation, examples and instructional videos.
- Assisting both sales and technical support with technical expertise on an as-needed basis.
- Attending trade shows to assist in staffing the company booth and interacting with current and prospective customers.
- Assisting the Technical Support team with software training classes in North America, and the conduct of advanced training classes as needed in Europe and Asia.
- Assisting in the production and submission of example models for the latest software versions.
- Producing raw video content for short videos describing new features and software techniques for posting on our customer support portal.
- Production of visually appealing images from the software as needed for use in marketing communications.CODE V is used throughout Europe, North American and Asia. Synopsys Optical Solutions Group (OSG) has a wide and talented network of international distributors. The CAE team supports that network on a regular basis with customer visits, training and user-group talks. Once the COVID 19 travel restrictions are eased, approximately 20% - 30% of the time will be spent on travel, typically in one- or two-week increments. Most of the time, trips will be planned with significant advance notice.
The ideal candidate will have either a Master's degree or a Ph.D. in imaging optics or a related field. Experience with imaging design software, preferably CODE V, is required. Given our diverse customer base, the ideal candidate must be able to quickly grasp technical issues for a wide variety of system types when meeting with customers on site. The candidate must have outstanding communications skills and be comfortable making technical presentations in front of large groups. They must also be willing and able to travel both domestically and overseas. The candidate must be able to communicate clearly in English both verbally and in written form.
