The Nutrition/ EFNEP Specialist is a non-tenure track faculty member of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service who provides educational leadership in the area of human nutrition/nutrition education and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) (60% EFNEP, 40% general nutrition). The Assistant/Associate Professor collects, evaluates, interprets and develops subject matter information for dissemination through the Extension delivery system. This includes on-line and in-person education. Conducts applied research to inform Extension nutrition programming. Seeks and manages grants and contracts. The position provides support to field faculty and serves as a recognized reference source for the organization in nutrition and nutrition education. Serves as USDA-NIFA's Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program Coordinator.

Duties:
Maintain professional competency in human nutrition, food safety, food resource management, electronic learning technologies, teaching methods, program evaluation, organizational skills, and applied research methods. Pursue professional development regarding methodology of delivering and managing Extension nutrition education programs through participation in professional organizations, University of Arkansas continuing education programs, government sponsored workshops, and the application of knowledge and skills.

Coordinate with statewide organizations and agencies to support EFNEP, SNAP Ed, chronic disease prevention programs, and other nutrition education programs of mutual interest. Build partnerships with agents, government, agencies, businesses, outreach partners and organizations to create, strengthen or extend educational programs. Serve on external committees, councils, and coalitions as appropriate to enhance networking and partnerships that enhance and support nutrition programming. Work with colleagues in other states and UA campus faculty to develop relevant programming. Work to exert initiative and influence within the organization and across the state and region in area of expertise.

Seek grants and resources to develop and enhance nutrition programs. Participate in relevant research. Collaborate on grant-funded projects led by colleagues as appropriate. Manage related accounts, grants, and resources in compliance with policy guidelines. Contribute to multiple national and regional EFNEP workgroups; attend national and regional EFNEP meetings.

Direct the statewide adult and youth programs in the UA Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program. Collaborate as appropriate with others to determine content, priorities, and emphasis and research areas for EFNEP.

Provide training and direction for agents and program assistants working with EFNEP. Responsible for state and county EFNEP audits, budgets, and reporting. Conduct and support educational activities using direct and/or indirect contact methods to teach or assist extension personnel. Provide research updates to county faculty as appropriate.

Provide/recommend nutrition curricula to county faculty and assist with program implementation and evaluation as appropriate. Deliver programs upon request throughout the state. Seek feedback and input from agents on client needs and curricular content and respond to feedback. Evaluate program outcomes and/or impacts in concert with agents whenever possible. Communicate program results through required reports.Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
An earned Doctorate in family & consumer sciences or a related field is required. The candidate must also be a Registered Dietician.

Ability to obtain & interpret research information. Ability to anticipate changing trends in assigned discipline area & develop programs to address those changes. Knowledge of the principles & techniques of adult education. Knowledge of the program planning process. Ability to work effectively with a variety of professional & lay audiences. Ability to communicate & convey ideas effectively to faculty, stakeholder groups, & clientele. Knowledge of social, economic, political & cultural factors affecting adult & youth learning. Physical & mental ability to effectively perform the duties & responsibilities of the job, including long & irregular hours of work & frequent in-state & out-of-state travel.
