Senior Grant Accountant at Alliance Health in Morrisville, North Carolina

Job Description:

The Senior Grant Accountant is responsible for managing grant related functions for Alliance Health. This includes tracking, reporting, monitoring and managing federal block grants, state allocations and county funding. This position will be responsible for coordinating and communicating grant requirements with the Financial Operations Department along with other departments to ensure the funding is utilized and recorded into the general ledger accurately. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure the Organization's financial transactions, records and reporting are accruate and timely as well as to ensure we are in compliance with contractual requirements including audits.  

Responsibilities & Duties

Tracking, Reporting, and Managing federal block grants, state allocations, and county funding


  • Managing allocation letters by tracking letters received, recommending new funding source numbers to the Accounting Manager and reviewing for special reporting requirements.

  • Completing any special reporting requirements 

  • Completes the monthly LME report by the required deadline

  • Completes the monthly FSR report requesting reimbursement from the state for all federal block grants and state categorical funding ensuring all expenses are reported to the correct allocation letter and are not over budget researching any variances. 

  • Monitor the NC Track Reports ensuring all Allocations are included

  • Complete year end reconciliation of NC Tracks and NCDHHS confirmation

  • Responsible for the management of the grant management module in the accounting system including tracking all  required information (provider, program name, CFR, GL code, budget information, etc.) 

  • Reconciliation of the Grant related Account Receivable accounts resolving any variances and communicate with the State on any variances between requested amounts and cash received. 

  • Management of Wake County funding which includes creating invoices requesting reimbursement from the county, flex fund tracking and reconciliation of invoices to cash received

  • Subreceipient Monitoring of Federal Block Grants

  • Maintain financial security by following internal controls

  • Complete monthly county invoices for Care Cordinator positions

  • Review of SEFSA completed by the Grant Accountant

  • Coordinating and Communicating grant requirements to ensure utilization and accurate recording

  • Review Scope of Work (SOW) to ensure Providers have the correct budget 

  • Interact with internal compliance department and external auditors to assist with completion of audits

  • Coordinate between Accounts Payable and Provider Networks to ensure special and year end deadlines are communicated to ensure spending of allocations. 

  • Developing and Maintaining procedures and practices for financial transactions, records, and reporting to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, sound accounting principles, and audits.

  • Recommend and implement process improvements to increase grant management efficiency 

  • Research, recommend and implement features within the new grant system that ensure proper allocation of funding

  • Develop procedures to ensure adherence with sub-recipent monitoring requirements for all Federal block grants

  • Ensure proper internal controls procedures are in place to ensure funds are used according to requirements

  • Develop reports and dashboards in Accounting Software for users outside of Finance to monitor allocation spending 

  • Develop and maintain procedures for the management of the Grant Management module

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and financial planning principles and practices

  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting and budget principles as applied to governmental accounting

  • Knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local requirements, laws and regulations that apply to governmental accounting and State and Federal funding

  • Knowledge of financial systems and software

  • Ability to perform a variety of projects

  • Ability to resolve complex problems that require the evaluation of alternative methods and solutions

  • Organization skills for efficient office control are mandatory

  • Thorough knowledge of grant accounting preferred.

  • Proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access

  • Ability to make prompt decisions on complex matters 

Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field from an accredited college/university and a minimum of three years related experience; or a two-year degree and five years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the essential knowledge and abilities to perform the job.  

Additional Training Preferred:   

Previous experience managing grants. Strong knowledge of Excel preferred.

$53,434 - $91,986
