Quality Engineer

OVERVIEW

Accountable to the Engineering & Quality Manager, this position is responsible to establish, implement, direct, and maintain Quality Assurance and Scrap Control programs and procedures throughout the various stages of manufacturing to assure a finished product with the highest quality possible.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Develop and maintain effective systems to achieve Plant and Company quality objectives.

  • Maintain orderly records to demonstrate compliance with U.L./C.S.A. specifications or other applicable external organizations.

  • Develop appropriate statistical sampling, electronic and/or other control methods to assure desired cable product quality levels.

  • Develop, improve and support plant cable electrical test systems, such as those for Insertion Loss, Return Loss, DC Resistance, Impedance and others.

  • Develop, oversee and improve novel plant product quality databases for traceability and failure analysis.

  • Direct and lead Quality Assurance associates to effectively perform required sampling, testing, and reporting of quality data.

  • Establish measurement equipment and gage instrument maintenance and calibration system to ensure "accuracy" and reliability of all applicable instruments, measuring devices, testing equipment, etc. throughout the manufacturing process, as well as in the Laboratory.

  • Identify adverse quality trends as evidenced by statistical analysis, and assists process engineering and/or manufacturing personnel in the development of corrective and preventive actions.

  • Investigate, evaluate, and report returned product from customers, ensuring complete corrective action through the Diamond System.

  • Lead plant efforts to conform to ISO-9002 requirements and ensure facility maintenance of certification.

  • Work with the plant staff to select most appropriate process improvement techniques.

  • Mentor problem solving, lean & operator led process control for production cells.

  • Effectively manage cross-functional relationships with other departments to support effective use of manpower and materials to achieve the desired level of product quality.

  • Supervise other support groups for specified periods of time, as requested.

  • Perform related duties as directed by Manager.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS


  • 5 plus years' experience in quality assurance management.

  • Lean or TPS-based Problem-Solving certification

  • Managerial experience in a team-based environment

  • Strong database background, comfortable with a variety of software systems, including spreadsheets.

  • Strong manufacturing background; able to understand and develop appropriate product specifications.

  • Minimum green belt with black belt preferred.

  • Must be able to motivate, communicate and drive continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrated ability to install and maintain electronic test equipment.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES


  • Results driven with demonstrated ability working in a high-performance manufacturing environment.

  • Proven experience in quality assurance management.

  • Attention to details, with the ability to manage the big picture.

  • Ability to manage multiple, complex tasks and deal easily with pressure on a daily basis.

  • Ability to motivate, communicate and drive continuous improvement.

  • Critical thinker, with excellent analytical abilities.Electrical/electronic gage and testing knowledge/experience is a plus.

  • Familiarity with databases and various programming languages is a plus.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Solid planning, leadership, and administrative skills.

  • High energy; demonstrates urgency and fast pace.

  • Good understanding of business principles and practices; can effectively manage the quality function with a customer driven bottom line result.

EDUCATION

  • BS degree in engineering or related practical science: with a strong foundation in business administration.
