User Experience (UX) Designer at SRC Inc. in Syracuse, New York

Job Description:

SRC, Inc. is currently seeking user experience designer to support the UX Team Lead on tasks that include user research, experience maps, modeling, framework development, detailed design, and usability testing. You'll work closely with engineering (including systems, hardware, software, mechanical and test) and product management teams, building solutions that genuinely improve our users' day-to-day lives. Because of the diverse nature of our work, we can accommodate team members with varying industry and technical backgrounds.

User experience is a strategic initiative at SRC, Inc., involving building a UX Center of Excellence team that will consist of a large number of UX practitioners over the next four years. This group will be responsible for increasing the usability of our products by designing end-to-end experiences utilizing Human-Centered Design principles and practices. They'll also be charged with advocating the benefits of human-centered design and training other SRC, Inc. employees.

Responsibilities

• Work with Product, UX, and Engineering leads to coordinate and support qualitative and quantitative user research to discover key insights about our customers and users


• Assist in design, prototype, test, and maintenance of user interfaces in support of national defense systems


• Work with engineering to document and communicate proposed design solutions to all product team members


• Participate in laboratory and field integration testing to perform usability evaluations


• Prepare and help present design status briefings and reviews


• Stay up to date on Human-Centered Design and Design Thinking methods


• Support the development of Human-Centered Design procedures, work instructions, and training materials


• Contribute to internal initiatives and research that fuel innovation and technological advancements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human computer interaction, psychology, or design related field with 1-3 years of experience in one or more of the following: user research, UX design, visual design and usability testing


• Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills


• Ability to help serve a team of change agents, influencing and promoting the value of UX/HCD to product design teams


• Should be empathetic and curious


• Experience/familiarity working with engineering teams


• Experience/familiarity working with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe XD, Balsamiq, or other similar design programs


• Experience using Design Systems


• Portfolio demonstrating experience/body of work in UX
