JOB SUMMARY

-

The chief objective of this position:

-

Manage all aspects of daily operations of the Laboratory to include but not limited to workload; staffing/personnel responsibilities; personnel actions; policies and procedures; maintenance of all personnel records; quality control and quality assurance; budget preparation and monitoring; re-engineering/restructuring; process improvement; regulatory oversight to ensure compliance with CAP, JC, federal and state entities.

Make informed decisions based on strong technical knowledge of Cytology, Histology, and Molecular Genetics, as appropriate to lab section. Make appropriate decisions based on knowledge of coding, billing and reimbursement requirements, as appropriate to lab section. Interact with medical directors, faculty and supervisors. Coordinate with clinicians, researchers outside the department to facilitate optimal laboratory access. Provide oversight and guidance for equipment and methodology validations with a full understanding of the technical and regulatory requirements.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:

Currently holds one of the following certifications from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP): Medical Technologist (MT); Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS); Histotechnician (HT); Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT); Specialist in Molecular Biology (SMB); Pathologists' Assistant (PA); or

Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA); or

-

Equivalent ASCP categorical certification or equivalent certification

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:

-

Currently holds one of the following certifications from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP): Medical Technologist (MT); Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS); Histotechnician (HT); Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT); Specialist in Molecular Biology (SMB); Pathologists' Assistant (PA); or

Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA); or

Equivalent ASC P categorical certification or equivalent certification

Experience REQUIRED:

-

- Minimum of 5 years of clinical work experience

- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory/management experience in an academic clinical laboratory

Education/training REQUIRED:

-

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology (BSCLS) or Biological Science from an accredited program

-

Education/training PREFERRED:

-

Master's Degree in Clinical Lab Science (MSCLS) from an accredited program or ASCP Speciality Certification
