Position Description

The System Design engineer is responsible for developing models for computer simulations of natural gas transmission system operations for use in identifying operational efficiencies and quantifying capacities, and developing expansion designs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, either directly or through others, the incumbent:

• Develops and maintains models to simulate the operations of natural gas transmission systems.


• Supports Business Management in tracking and marketing system capacity.


• Supports Business Development with expansion opportunities by developing operationally robust system designs.


• Performs simulations of pipeline operations to determine system configuration and selection of compression that will produce most fuel efficient operations.


• Identifies and evaluates facility modifications that result in improved fuel efficiency.


• Develops and applies tools and utilities to assess pipeline performance primarily through analysis of friction factors.


• Reduces output to a format that is readily accessible to a knowledge-based system which is used for decision support for Gas Controllers.


• Provides support for limited pipeline simulation capability in Gas Control.


• Works with Gas Controllers to formulate simplified system models which can be used for decision support for daily natural gas transmission system operations.


• Maintains collaborative inter-departmental and cross-functional working relationships with all members of the department and with both office and field employees.


• Supports Business Development with expansion opportunities by developing operationally robust system designs that meet or exceed all commercial expectations.


• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline with emphasis on fluid flow dynamics. (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical or Electrical is preferred)

Experience:
Five years of related work experience in the oil and gas industry to include:

1. Experience with and knowledge of characteristics of compressible fluids and simulations of flow dynamics.


2. Experience with and knowledge of computer modeling of compression and fluid flow in pipelines.

• Strong verbal and written communications skills.


• Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.


• Strong computer skills including ability to use Microsoft software products and learn other programs quickly.
