GRADE: 190/200
WORK LOCATION: Idaho Falls, ID (Site 4x10 schedule)

The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking candidates for a TREAT Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) / Reactor Operator (RO) reporting to the Nuclear Facility Manager at the assigned reactor facility. Selected candidates may be expected to support multiple test reactor platforms as well as support new reactor demonstration projects as they come online. INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for the United States Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels including fuel design, development and fabrication, and post irradiation analysis. MFC currently hosts the Transient Reactor Test Facility (TREAT) and the TRIGA Neutron Radiography Reactor (NRAD). The MFC also plays a central role in supporting the National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC), which provides resources for testing, demonstration, and performance assessment to accelerate the deployment of new, advanced nuclear technology concepts.

The TREAT Senior Reactor Operator / Reactor Operator is responsible for performing operations of the assigned reactor in steady state as well as under test conditions.

Responsibilities

Operate the reactor and experiments in a safe, compliant, and efficient manner as specified in program documents
Perform final assembly of experiments including connection of instrumentation.
Manipulate fuel and experiments within the reactor core.
Perform surveillances and execute maintenance items on reactor and auxiliary equipment.
Establish safe conditions for craft maintenance.
Provide oversight to subcontractor facility modifications.
Write and review procedures.
Monitor system health, including development of plans for improving system safety.
Execute the test program for reactor demonstration projects.

Nuclear Navy qualification and experience with nuclear NEC rating of ETN, EOOW OR EWS level or above and HS Diploma. -OR-Previously qualified as RO/SRO at a commercial nuclear facility.
Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE "L" clearance.
Must have the ability to qualify as Reactor Operator at the assigned facility.
Must also have a firm understanding of conduct of operations and a practical knowledge of basic engineering theory in the areas of electrical power distribution, instrumentation and control, nuclear physics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.
Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts.
Must be able to complete Rad Worker II qualifications and perform radiological work such as handling fissile or contaminated equipment, donning/doffing of anti-contamination clothing, and wearing a full-face respirator.
Must be willing to comply with DOE conduct of operations requirements and Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) principles.
Must have physical dexterity to control operations of equipment or systems.
Must have a proven track record of integrity, demonstrated strong work ethic, and customer service mentality.

Preferred experience
Analog and Digital I&C background is highly desired.
