DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago (LUC) invites applications for two full-time tenure-track positions both at the rank of Assistant Professor, for academic year 2021-22. As part of a University-wide, multiyear hiring initiative that embraces diverse perspectives and voices, the department seeks applicants with expertise in research examining how youth and families are influenced by stress and adversity (e.g., exposure to violence, discrimination, racism), with an emphasis on understanding psychological and physiological processes that influence adaptation over time. In line with Loyola s social justice mission, we are especially interested in research that seeks to incorporate diverse perspectives, promote equity, or reduce disparities. The specific areas of expertise we are seeking for each position are listed below:

POSITION 1 (Stress Physiology/Neurobiology)

Job Title: Assistant Professor, Clinical Psychology

Background and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Clinical PhD program, and to teach one or more undergraduate course(s) in Neuroscience, and one or more graduate courses in, for example, Psychophysiology, Introduction to Clinical Psychology, Ethics, Assessment, Health Psychology, Human Diversity, and/or Statistics. Preference will be given to candidates who use multiple methods, including physiological or neurobiological approaches, to examine stress and its antecedents and consequences. Expertise in advanced statistical techniques (e.g., growth-mixture modeling) or those who are licensed/license-eligible will also be prioritized. The successful candidate will also demonstrate (a) an ability to maintain a vigorous, ongoing program of research and publication, (b) the potential to secure external grant funding to support that research, be able to contribute in a substantial way to the university s mission to promote social justice and equity, and (d) engage in transdisciplinary research across the campuses.

POSITION 2 (Psychopathology)

Job Title: Assistant Professor, Clinical Psychology

Background and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Clinical PhD program, and to teach one or more undergraduate courses as well as graduate courses in, for example, Introduction to Clinical Psychology, Developmental Psychopathology, Assessment, Health Psychology, Family Psychology, Human Diversity, Ethics, and/or Statistics. Preference will be given to candidates whose research examines psychological disorders and/or promotion of wellbeing during early childhood, childhood, adolescence and/or early adulthood. For example, successful applicants might study the role of context (culture, community, neighborhood, school, and family) on mental health disparities. Preference will be given to candidates who are licensed/license-eligible or have expertise in advanced statistical modeling techniques (e.g., growth-mixture modeling). The successful candidate will demonstrate (a) an ability to maintain a vigorous, ongoing program of research and publication, (b) the potential to secure external grant funding to support that research, be able to contribute in a substantial way to the university s mission to promote social justice and equity, and (d) engage in transdisciplinary research across the campuses.

About Loyola: As an urban-based Department of Psychology dedicated to mentoring a diverse student body, many of whom come from under-represented and under-served populations, we especially encourage applications from candidates from under-represented groups. We also encourage applications from scholars committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines) and the successful pursuit of external grants. The Department currently has over 30 tenured and tenure-track faculty, serves 1,800 undergraduate psychology and neuroscience majors, and has three PhD programs (Developmental, Clinical, and Social). For more information about the department, please visit its website at https://www.luc.edu/psychology/

The University seeks to increase the diversity of its professoriate, workforce and undergraduate and graduate student populations because broad diversity including a wide range of individuals who contribute to a robust academic environment is critical to achieving the University s mission of excellence in education, research, educational access and services in an increasingly diverse society. Therefore, in holistically accessing the many qualifications of each applicant, we would factor favorably an individual s record of conduct that includes experience with an array of diverse perspectives, as well as a wide variety of different educational, research or other work activities.
