Job Description:

OVERVIEW
Assure efficient operation of the James Ford Bell (JFB) Shop Machinist Team by fostering a superior work climate conducive to meeting mutually agreed upon customer job specifications, cost estimates, and time schedules. Applicant will manage our internal machine shop workflow as we fabricate components used in the assembly of proprietary food processing equipment. Additionally, this role is also responsible for managing workflow through a series of external partners. Strong safety leadership skills are required. Applicant needs to be self-directed, reliable, creative in resolving problems, committed to employee development and to delivering world-class levels of service support to all GMI and Joint Venture business groups. A strong knowledge in various fabrication processes and precision equipment assembly is required. May be required to work extended hours and weekends, and to travel on occasion to meet customers' requests. This position will report to the JFBTC Equipment Technology and Innovation Group Manager.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Supervision:
- Lead with safety. Drive safe work practices in the Shop and drive safety improvements through strong leadership and by example. Make sure that the team is meeting or exceeding any applicable OSHA, EPA, and GMP requirements
- Develop, train, and motivate the Machinist team to assure continuing competence in required skills
- Performance management for 6-8 direct reports which includes conducting performance reviews, creating Individual Development plans, and providing on-going feedback
- Manage team to obtain the best organizational efficiencies; manage schedules and work assignments, approve timecards and vacation requests
- Coordinate work in a close partnership with the Electrical, Mechanical, and Instrumentation Team Leader, the Accounting & Storeroom Supervisor, and the Machine Design Manager

Tactical:
- Provide effective written or verbal communications to Shop Manager, Shop team members, and Customers
- Assure all fabricated parts, equipment modifications and repair work performed by Shop employees or preferred outsource vendors meet customer specifications for quality, cost, and delivery. Manage the Shop inspection process
- Work directly with Shop office support to requisition commercial or fabricated parts and services
- Initiate plans for new equipment, methods, or operating standards to improve quality, output, and reduce equipment costs
- Create customer quotations or estimates for the fabrication or modifications of process equipment or components
- Manage preferred outsource suppliers for Shop fabrication work
- Track and communicate progress of open Shop work orders
- Maintain Technical School relationships for the recruitment of new employees

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate Science or Associate Art degree or diploma from an accredited vocational school, two-year community college, or equivalent training from the military or significant relevant work experience. Degree or diploma shall be in a related technical field
- Engineering degree required for future progression within Engineering
- 5-10 years related experience
- Ability to utilize software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
- Achieves technical mastery of equipment and develops it in others
- Good understanding of mechanical processes, both hands on and theory
- Demonstrated skills in servant leadership, problem solving, coaching, and training
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Expertise in CNC and manual machining, metallurgy, and heat treatment processes
- Experience with Solidworks and Mastercam
- Previous experience managing direct reports in a machine shop or maintenance environment.
- Experience with fabrication of equipment for use in the food industry
- Project management or project execution experience .
