Job Description:

Blue Shield of California (BSC) is looking for a Principal Pharmacist for our Pharmacy Sales and Accounts Team. The Principal Pharmacist will support the Northern California Sales and Account Management team by leading pharmacy account management and coordination for key clients and support pharmacy membership growth and retention objectives; serve as the pharmacy first point of contact for Account Management on client's pharmacy management-related questions and issues, and collaborate with pharmacy team to develop resolution plan and recommendations; develop and provide consultative client value presentations (onsite and via webinars) for pharmacy; provide support for pharmacy related RFP strategy and response development; communicate value proposition to internal and external stakeholders; and provide consultative support for drugs covered under the medical benefit.

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Pharmacy Sales & Accounts, the Principal Pharmacist may be based in our Oakland or Rancho Cordova office or may telecommute. Due to COVID-19 impact and current guidelines, the Principal Pharmacist will onboard and work remotely until Blue Shield resumes work in its office, no earlier than mid-2021.

The purpose of the Pharmacy Sales & Accounts team is to drive pharmacy sales and account strategy to support the business units with pharmacy sales and membership retention.

Key accountabilities of the team include:

Serve as a liaison to the sales and account management teams to provide consultative support, training tools and presentations on pharmacy product offerings and value proposition for prospective and existing clients

-

Strategize and execute on pharmacy request for proposal (RFP) submission including pharmacy product customizations, pricing and guarantee development, and implementation planning

-

Lead the development and maintenance of integrated pharmacy value story to support membership growth and retention

-

Support and advise on client customizations for benefit design, network management, and clinical programs for both fully insured and self-funded clients.

Work cross functionally with other pharmacy teams to manage and resolve client issues, respond to day to day client inquiries and ensure client contract guarantees and deliverables are met

-

Support Cost of Health Care (COHC) strategy development and drive pharmacy product adoption and implementation in the employer group market

-

Partner with business unit teams to develop pharmacy strategies that align with business unit growth and profitability objectives

-

Provide marketplace intelligence and client feedback to internal pharmacy teams to influence product and COHC strategy development.

Pharmacist with pharmacy benefit management expertise and understanding of the health plan, PBM and broker relationships

Essential Job duties and responsibilities:

The Principal Pharmacist will support Sales and Account Executives for key clients as assigned. Responsible for the client relationship with regard to pharmacy coverage to improve the quality of service and care while managing overall health care costs. Serve as first point-of-contact to Sales and Account Executives for their client's pharmacy management-related questions to provide consultation and recommendations to optimize pharmacy cost management and enhance the quality of care. Key accountabilities include:

Serve as the primary pharmacist for a variety of client types including medium sized (~1K lives) and complex, large (30K+ lives) strategic accounts in the greater Bay Area with an ability to critically assess and strategize solutions at depth in the areas of product, operations, and clinical programs

-

Understand and be able to effectively communicate the primary services and functions of Blue Shield's pharmacy management Summarize pharmacy utilization and cost trends into a cohesive and persuasive client presentation and effectively deliver at client meetings to educate on the value of Blue Shield pharmacy benefit management and its broader integration with medical benefit management

-

Develop and utilize financial and pricing models to analyze and present business and clinical scenarios to clients illustrating the advantages of different benefit strategies and pharmacy programs

-

Lead the resolution of client's pharmacy-related issues by collaborating with health plan functional areas and pharmacy teams as needed

-

Collaborate with other functional teams in developing, distributing, and maintaining client-facing marketing and communication materials which support Blue Shield pharmacy management

-

Collaborate with internal leaders throughout other business units for problem solving, planning and successful outcomes

-

Collaborate with Underwriting team to leverage sustainable pricing models to meet the competitive industry landscape and grow market membership

-

Provide regular feedback to client and internal account management on client performance of financial, service, and clinical guarantees

-

Strategically assess and complete request for proposals (RFP) for pharmacy benefit management with coordination of business acquisition, underwriting, and sales teams.

Job and Education Requirements:

Education and minimum Experience Level:

-

Pharm.D. degree and 4 or more years of work experience in managed care or PBM settings

-

Currently active unrestricted California Registered Pharmacist (R.Ph.
