Job Description

The Lead System Engineer will be based in Farmington Hills, MI . She or he will be part of a highly skilled engineering team responsible for the design, development, validation and release to production of L4 Autonomous Driving Compute Systems.  The Lead System Engineer will work closely with the Project Chief and Lead Technical Project Manager and will be the owner of the system design. His/her responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, requirements and specifications definition, Functional Safety activities (in collaboration with the FSM), Cybersecurity, design quality and reliability, manufacturability and testability.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…


  • Provide requirements leadership and ownership for the product developments using standard requirements management tools and methodologies.

  • Develop product specifications where applicable.

  • Determine system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. 

  • Coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total system. 

  • Participate and/or coordinate product development meetings.

  • Ensure that the system is functioning according to specifications.

  • Develop engineering release documentation.

  • Develop and/or approves test plans and test reports.

  • Review and evaluate test results; identify root cause of problems and provide corrective actions and recommendations.

  • Coordinate execution and delivery of Functional Safety work products

  • Lead system reliability demonstration activities

  • Coordinate and/or develop system level DFMEAs

  • Identify, analyze and resolve program support deficiencies. 

  • Track customer/project issues and drive resolution.

  • Support manufacturing requirements and best practices.

  • Responsible for systems level development and testing requirements.

  • Ensures ISO process conformance such as IATF16949, ASPICE and ISO26262

  • Interact with customer and suppliers to resolve system issues

  • Participate in customer and internal technical design reviews.

Here is some of what you’ll need (required)…


  • A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related fields, Master's degree is preferred.

  • 10 years or more experience as system engineer or combination of system and product design experience on specific technical area (HW, SW, Test, etc.).

  • Experience with all aspects of design & development process of automotive electronic controllers.

  • Familiar with automotive reliability requirements, and component selection for automotive applications.

  • Familiar with ISO/TS/IATF 16949 requirements, and experience in working in an ISO/TS/IATF 16949 certified design and development environment.

  • Knowledge of automotive Functional Safety requirements (ISO26262)

  • Working experience with DFMEA, FMEDA, FTA

  • Experience with an issue-tracking software platform such as JIRA, and with other ALM/PDM/PDL and engineering release tools (codeBeamer, Polarion, Windchill, etc).

  • Familiar with NHTSA / SEA Automation Levels 2-5

  • Experience with autonomous vehicle architecture, or experience with technologies supporting the development of autonomous vehicle systems: ADAS, sensor fusion, high performance compute systems.

  • High level of oral and written communication skills.

  • High level of analytical ability and trouble-shooting where problems are unusual and complex.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers and others
